Need help with uni decision

So ive gotten offers from met film, lfa, central, westminister and kingston for filmmaking for 2026. Which should i choose. Im currently leaning towards met but central has offered a scholarship and accommodation.
Hey x

Well done on getting your offers, this is so exciting!!

While each offer different opportunities, think about how will each University help you with potential career prospects after University. This may look like opportunities including: industry access, networking, hands-on production time, equipment, facilities... Connections and portfolio matters.

Additionally, the scholarship is a major factor, this could mean significant tuition reduction and accommodation.
In a creative industry where: early jobs are low-paid, freelance is common and you may self-fund projects, graduating with less debt is beneficial.

However, ask yourself why these Universities, be honest with yourself:

What is the vibe?

Location?

Branding?

Opportunities?

I hope this helps with your decision, and good luck with your future studies and exams. 😊

Hi @Ak46

I hope you are well! The decision is really a personal one and needs to be made on what you think you will enjoy the most and benefit the most from however, there are many factors to consider that will help you make your decision! Have you visited any of the unis for something like an open day? If so, was there any that stuck out to you and that you think you'd feel most comfortable at? Before I decided on LJMU as my firm choice I visited for an applicant day. As soon as I came to Liverpool and got to see all the buildings and meet some of the staff I instantly knew I would enjoy it here and I felt very welcomed. That was a major contributor to why I decided on LJMU.

I also thought about the course and compared it to many other universities that I was also considering. I liked the fact that LJMU assess me using a variety of different techniques such as essays, reports, presentations, group tasks and exams. It isn't all down to one exam at the end of the year and that's another reason that made me firm the uni. Have you had a look to see if the filmmaking course offered by each uni is similar or are there any key differences that might make you sway more towards one than the other?

The scholarship that has already been offered to you is also something very significant to think about as it will help you out massively financially and cut down a lot of the debt that every student finds themselves in once graduating.

It is a tough decision firming one particular uni but if you think about all the important factors mentioned then it definitely makes it a lot easier. Just make sure you do what you think will be best for yourself, thats the most important thing.

I hope this response has helped, let me know if you have any other questions as I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hi AK46,

Congratulations on your offers.

Jumping in as someone from a Uni not in the running, the best advise I can give is go to offer holder days at each of those uni's, this way you can get a better feel for the teaching style and the facilities the courses offer.

Then head out into the area around the uni. Investigate the place you might be living in for three years. Uni and it's course is important but if you don't feel comfortable outside uni it can really ruin your experience, or even negatively affect your studies.

Choosing a uni is a big decision but I personally think that although it seems like one that should be made using logic it's better to trust your gut and decide based on vibes.

The logic has been applied when narrowing down where to apply to, now you can focus on where feels like it could be home.

Congrats again on your offers.

Hi @Ak46

Congratulations on your on offers and a scholarship, that's amazing!

Have you been to any open days/offer holder days?

Going to open days really helped me make a decision. It is a great chance to get a feel for the university as to what it might be like to live and study there, see the facilities and speak to current students and lectures. Especially for film making it would be good to see all the film studios, equipment and editing suites.

At Kingston you would be based on the Knights Park Campus, I am also based there as it is for creative art and design courses. There is a great atmosphere there, lost of events happening and very collaborative. I have a whole post on it that you might be interested in An Overview of Knights Park Campus - The Student Room

Although, I do not personally study filmmaking here I have a few friends here that study it and really enjoy it! I also attended a really fun fundraiser they did and I have watched a few of the graduate students film at the graduate show, which were great!

I will leave a link to a few posts I have created that may help with decision making and get some insight to Kingston

Hi @Ak46👋

Hope you are well. Congratulations on the offers- well done! Now to make a decision it can be difficult yes. When I applied for University I also got all my offers and had to take some time to make a decision.

When considering a university, look at things like the location- is the area good but also how close is it to campus regarding accommodation. The department-is your department welcoming, do they have a lot of information and facilities for your subject (essentially how good are they). Another thing is will you have to commute or stay on campus- travel costs? Look at the student life- is it appealing to you- which do you see yourself in? Look into networking opportunities as well- are they job opportunities later on there- what will you get out of it? Look at part time jobs- do they have have a lot so it would be easier for you to get a job if you need one or is it limited? Accommodation- look at the prices and which is more your vibe.

I hope this helps. This is the factors I looked at when making my decision back then and it helped a lot. I looked at student life, my department and location the most as the key factors to think about. I hope you make a decision soon and do ask for help on here again if you still need help deciding 😊
