Advice needed

I have applied to study physiotherapy. But I randomly choose it as I did not have passion anything. Even if I took a gap year I don’t think I would of found a course with my passion. I considered degree apprenticeship but I couldn’t find anything interesting. Now I am worried I will regret doing Physiotherapy but I don’t know what else I can do. Also, I already got offers for Physiotherapy and still waiting to hear back from some uni (I did the interviews). Any ways does anyone have any advice or anything? Before physiotherapy I had a
passion for psychology but I no longer have it and I don’t want to do it anymore.sorry for it being long

hi! i have a friend who applied to do physiotherapy for the exact same reason as you, and while this may be a subjective thing, he said it was one of the best things he could have done! its a very enjoyable course, but has a lot of science in it, mostly biology and chemistry. if you think you will enjoy that, then i think that its definitely a good shout !! the only advice i can give is to maybe watch some lectures on youtube if you can find any

Hi there @El1f ,

That is quite a dilemma you are in and I hope you have people you can talk to to discuss your thoughts and feeling.

I would agree with @mimi.imee's advice as this might help you gain some insight into the course to help you with your decision. It might also be useful to try and speak to students studying physiotherapy or even just studying at universities you have applied to, here on The Student Room or on Unibuddy to try and gauge their experiences, thoughts and feelings, see what societies are on offer or what support is available, etc. You could also try and find YouTube videos to actually see campuses and facilities.

Personally, I would advise against taking a degree you aren't truly passionate about. A degree is a massive commitment, taking a lot of energy, time of your life, and costs a massive amount of money - and so, is not something to risk if your heart is not in it. There is no shame in not going to university or even not doing a degree apprenticeship. If you are struggling to find anything that you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life, it might be worth not going to university now, and instead take time to get a part-time or even a full-time job, travel, take a break from studying, etc. I would suggest trying to use this time to try and see if you find anything along the way, because there is no rush, and you should not subject yourself to a degree you don't want to do just because you feel you have no other options. For instance, you might get a part-time job and find that you are happy to work in that industry for the rest of your life. Or you might go travelling and find that you want to move to another country and work there.

I hope you carefully evaluate your options and come to a decision you are happy with, without feeling like there aren't alternative options. Good luck and all the best!
