Im going to be studying Biology, chemistry and either English, psychology or Geography as my last two but not sure what would be best for uni to study medicine. What do you think will be best

I think psychology is best as it is still in the science route but I think you should choose what you enjoy and look at university’s your interested in to find out what they would prefer

Biology and chemistry are your main ones. Out of your other 2, pick the ones that you will enjoy most and do the best in. How about maths? Psychology is also related to the sciences.

Other 2 wise then, you could pick psychology and 1 other (whichever you think you will like best and do best in).

Hi OP!

Just to clarify are you planning on doing 4 a-levels? Biology + Chemistry + Whatever third subject you will do best in would be what I reccomend. Medical school offers tend to comprise your 3 highest grades so I would really discourage you from doing 4 as throughout year 12-13 you will have to do work experience,UCAT prep, extra curriculars and volunteering on top of your studies to build your application. Of the options, psychology would be the most relevant to medicine but I know peers who have studied english literature or geography alongside bio and chem!

Stick to only three subjects but you could start with 4 if youre unsure. Have a look at the specific texts your school will do for English lit and the spec topics for psych to see which you'd enjoy studying more. You could also inquire about taster sessions or if your current school offers these a levels you can ask the teachers about these subjects.

Your 3rd alevel for med usually does NOT matter for med at all (except at either oxford or cambridge, one of which requires a 3rd stem subject). so pick whatever you enjoy the most!
