TMUA

I’m a year 12 and I want to study Economics at university and I know I may have to sit the TMUA(preferably the October sittings). I want to know when I should start revising and if I sgoyp

I don’t do fm just maths and I’m predicted an A (my school only predicts for AS as of now) and got an 8 in GCSE.

Hi @Sonnychibi

You don’t need further maths to do the TMUA. If you’re preferring the October sittings for the TMUA then depending on how organised you are with studying, you may want to lightly start getting a vague idea of how the exam will be now, and seriously set a studying schedule during the summer break.

TMUA is really difficult and if you aren't A* potential in A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths you are very unlikely to ace it for the simple reason that TMUA is designed to discriminate between test sitters who are already performing right at the very top of their cohort in Maths.

I’ve been told it’s just based off AS level maths so the maths itself shouldn’t be hard I think it’s just the critical thinking and problem solving that’s hard. I also can’t be predicted A* now as the highest in AS is A. I might not even have to sit it though 🤷*♀️

I suggest you work your way through your A-level syllabus documents and through the TMUA syllabus rather than relying on hearsay.

"What is in the test?

The TMUA is based on content typically covered within Higher Level GCSE mathematics courses or AS level mathematics. Please refer to Test Specification for more details."

It's not hearsay - that's what it says on the official website!

Yes, the official website refers test takers to the syllabus! It's extremely important to completely master that content.

So it is based on AS work then which you challenged the OP on.

I'm not challenging anyone, I'm suggesting erring on the side of extreme caution given how many test takers were disappointed with their results this year.

You are - you said study the whole A level spec - that isn't needed. Don't scaremonger please, none of my students were disappointed.

Try tmuabank.co.uk for extra questions so you don't waste the past papers too early on
