Hi Dove07,

Welcome to YSJ! :wavey: Happy to have you on board! If you're looking for coursemates, I found most of mine via Facebook groups. It might be worth having a look around for a YSJ 2026 Facebook group - sometimes people make Whatsapp groups and post the link on there so your coursemates can all stay in contact. And if nobody has made a group for SLT yet, maybe you can be the one to do it! If you have any queries or questions about starting in September be sure to let one of us know. Good luck!

Best wishes,

Thanks for this!! Will definitely have a check. I was wondering how to go about accommodation? I know it’s says about undergraduates but is there any available on campus for post graduate students?

Hey!

Sorry for the late reply - I hope this is still helpful!
Just a quick one - our accommodation isn't actually on campus. Might just be the way you worded it but I just wanted to say our accommodation is scattered around York and is usually like roughly 10 minutes away from campus.

Some of our accommodations are more popular with postgraduate students than others, being Garden Street and 49 Clarence Street. University managed housing is popular too. As far as I'm aware there's no clear-cut distinctions between which accoms are postgrad and which are undergrad, but I get that for some the difference can feel a little stark if you're not feeling the freshers-clubbing-first-year vibe for your postgrad experience haha!

Many choose to go private - there are countless agencies around York that provide student accommodation all throughout the city. It can be more expensive than uni-managed housing but the prices are generally quite similar. Many also choose to house share - when I was looking for people to live with in my second year, I was part of a facebook group called Student Accommodation York or Housesharing York or something like that - it could be worth joining a couple FB groups with that kind of idea. People tend to post advertisements for housemates on there, and they will usually have the tenancy sorted and they're just looking for one last person to fill the final room. It gives you a good chance to meet people before moving in with them to see if you'd get on. I remember seeing a lot of students on there who were specifically looking for a more relaxed household, or people who are more mature students, if that's something that applies to you

Sorry if this was super vague - if you still have any questions, I'm happy to pass anything more specific on to our accommodation team, or if you'd like to contact them yourself their email is [email protected]

Good luck house hunting! :yeah:
