University of Sheffield 2026 accommodation- help!

Hi, I have accepted UoS as my firm uni offer to study Journalism starting September 2026 (I am currently doing my a levels in English lang, psychology and biology). I'm looking to book accommodation but unsure of where to look- is anyone able to give some advice? Whether in city or outside of city (Radmnoor/ Endcliffe), private or non private, any accommodation that you would particularly recommend or not recommend. Any advice would be such a great help, thanks

Hey,
This is subject to what you want out of your accommodation.
If you want to be close to lot of student from UOS and also in first year then uni accommodation. Endcliffe and Ranmoor are a bit of distance to Uni it’s a long walk down (25- 40 minutes ) to the main buildings but facing a hill when going home. But there’s buses. Allen court is close to uni and technically the city (there’s also a tram stop just outside - but more expensive than the rest) Bramor (not sure I got the spelling is also close to uni and city and also a bit cheaper than the rest) Also note that Sheffield is very hilly so you’re are going to experience this no matter where you live. Allen court and branmoor and another accommodation which I can’t remember the name of are the closest to journalism building (5-15minutes)

In terms of price uni accommodation tends to be more expensive than private so bear that in mind. But downside to private is that you may get students from Sheffield Hallam/ phd/ masters (some accommodation allow you to put your preference so you only get put together with first year)

For city, there’s some average options I would say definitely look around. I stayed in Sheffield 3 which was decent price and 10 minutes from most uni buildings and there’s a tram stop outside the accommodation.

My sister stayed in Bailey street accommodation which is also close by and private. Had good amenities, gym common area and there’s likes. Decent price and more modern than Sheffield 3.

One thing I did was look up the university on the map even better if you use diamond building (the journalism department building is around there and it’s also the most used place other than the library) as a guide as most lecture theatres are around there and then look for accommodations within 10-20 minutes walk and compare the prices.

Hi!

Congratulations on your offer! It's so exciting that you loved Uni of Sheffield enough to have here as your first choice- I have no doubt you'll love it as much as I have so far!

One of our other TSR student ambassadors, Ami, made a super informative post on our Accommodation options, which you can find linked here! She gives lots of insight into the perks of each accommodation, so definitely worth a read! The University itself also has a useful Accommodation page with walk through and 360 degree virtual tours of the various different University-owned accommodation options here.

I personally lived in Endcliffe in first year and loved it! I found that it had a big community feel and was a great place to be in terms of meeting other people! I enjoyed the location- super close to several shops, pubs and cafes in Broomhill, but also super close to the Botanical Gardens and Ecclesall Road. Its about a 20 min leisurely walk to most University buildings, which most students use as the opportunity for a catch up scenic stroll with friends on the way to lectures! Having said that though, there are frequent public buses that you can catch from the top of Endcliffe village if you wished!

Is there anything in particular that you're hoping for from your first-year accommodation? That might help you to narrow down some options😊

Hi, I’ve also firmed Sheffield for journalism! I’m thinking endcliffe or ranmoor mostly just for being near to people and it didn’t seem too far on the open day. Do you have any idea when the accommodation opens?

Hey
I'm not a student at the uni but live close.
Just out of what I know of the city I highly recommend Endcliffe as it is a lovely area. Defo one of the best in Sheff and it is relatively safe. A lot of students also live close by in Broomhill in private accom and it is also great and has lots of shops and charity shops. However it is a little busier and louder so if you want a more village vibe go for Endcliffe, for a more city vibe you can go for Broomhill.

Just my opinion so take it with a pinch of salt!

Hi Carysconnolly,

Firstly, congratulations on your offer and making Sheffield your firm choice!

Endcliffe or Ranmoor are great choices. I personally lived in Endcliffe in my first year and as mentioned by Alicia above, I really enjoyed the sense of community and being surrounded by people.

Applying to University Accommodation - this link should be open now so if you follow the link and click onto 'Apply Now', you should be able to see the rooms that are available.

You have until June to finalise your room options. Also, the rooms are released in waves, so if you have a preference for another building or don't like any of the rooms currently available, more should be released at a later date.

I hope this is helpful, and if you have any further questions about life in Sheffield, please feel free to ask. 😁

I am currently looking, and Stepenson is the only block currently available in Endcliffe to book. I am really hoping ot try and get Yarncliffe. Do you have any idea when these rooms will be available or if they are already taken?

Hiya,

I would suggest contacting accommodation services to get more information about specific blocks to see if there is still availability:
Email: [email protected]
Call: +44 114 222 4488

Hope that helps and let me know if you have anymore questions about life in Sheffield!
