University Mental Health Day – from Mental Health Nursing students ❤️

How can you tell when you might be struggling with your mental health?

Mental health nursing students share a few things to look out for if you’re starting to feel overwhelmed or not quite yourself.

1. Listen to yourself.
Try to build self-awareness and pay attention to when you might need to pause, take a break, or ask for support. Your body and mind often send signals when you’re doing too much, even if you don’t realise it straight away. Feeling constantly tired, stressed, or unable to switch off can be a sign that you need some time to reset.

2. Watch for small changes in your daily life.
Mental health changes don’t always happen suddenly. You might notice yourself withdrawing from friends, struggling to look after yourself, finding it harder to focus on assignments, missing deadlines, or noticing changes in your appetite or sleep. These small shifts can sometimes be early signs that something isn’t quite right.

3. You don’t have to cope alone.
If something has happened, or you feel overwhelmed, it’s really important to speak up. There is support available at university, and reaching out to someone you trust can help you feel more in control and less isolated.

Looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your studies. If you’re struggling, reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness 💙
