Hiya!!

I can’t speak for this year’s exact timeline, but try not to panic is my main advice.

A few key things to keep in mind:

They assess in batches rather than strictly first-come, first-served.

A lot of strong October applicants don’t hear back until January–May.

Competitive social science courses (including Politics and International Relations) often take longer because of volume + careful contextual review.

In previous cycles, offers have gone out anywhere from late January through to end of March, with some even closer to the UCAS deadline. So still being in the waiting phase right now is very normal.

Also congrats on your stats, they are genuinely strong for Durham. A*AA and solid GCSEs absolutely keep you in contention. At this stage, silence doesn’t mean rejection, it just means you’re still under consideration.

Honestly, hang in there, this stage of waiting is the worst part. Happy to answer anything else about Durham life or the course in the meantime 😊

My son applied last October, got his offer a couple of weeks later. Contextual, home student. He was lucky to get all his offers in by end of Jan. He made Durham his firm and Birmingham his insurance. heading to the offer day in April. However he has just decided to defer for 12 months and has had confirmation from Durham that they will update his application for him.

Unfortunately our daughter has been rejected based on an application of A*A*A including strong GCSEs. To make matters worse she is now predicted A*A*A* we have absolutely no idea what more she could of achieved/completed.. Good luck everyone else.
