Hey!
It has been a few years since I did my GCSEs but I can try to give a good picture of what it looks like.

It completely depends on what you find easy. If you are able to memorise facts quite easily and write essays then great you will likely find it easy- this is why I found it easy anyways.
However, I know people who writing essays doesnt come so naturally to them so they found it harder.
I think whether youre interested in it also makes a huge difference. (Though my A levels are all STEM based), I found the Cold War interesting as it related to conflict today and so that section was easy to memorise as it just stuck with me whereas I found Migration quite hard as I wasnt interested in it. I recommend having a look at the exam board your school does or ask your teachers which topics are covered.

It is a very content heavy subject so be aware of that.
Just of a comparison against geography, from personal experiences from friends, I think geography is a bit easier but take that with a pinch of salt.

Lmk if you need anymore help

Hi! I’m about to do my A-levels so GCSEs were like yesterday to me. History isn’t easy but it’s not the hardest thing in the world either, because there’s a lot of ways to revise for it. I mainly used flash cards since it requires a lot of memory.

I’ll be honest, your friend might not enjoy it if they’re not a fan of essay writing or lots of content. I remember not finishing one of my questions on paper 2 because I blanked and forgot some of it. Also wouldn’t recommend picking it just for the sake of picking. Make sure they have a genuine interest in history because it requires some level of motivation to revise.
It can be really interesting and it’s also a respected subject by employers and universities, since it obviously needs a lot of skill. It also goes well with other subjects since almost everything needs critical thinking.
The biggest con in my opinion was the content, because it’s a lot and the topics are diverse so you also have to make sure not to get mixed up. Examiners love it when you mention names, dates etc. so your friend would need to memorise specifics. Overall, I would definitely recommend it, but it depends. If they already know what they want to do after GCSEs, maybe see if history is actually needed or if there's a better subject they might be interested in. Some of my friends loved it but others would’ve picked something like geography instead if they could go back

History has quiet a lot of content in general and requires essay writing skills but if you have the structure then answering questions shouldn’t be hard at all since they’re all about the same being stuff like point evidence explain or maybe a sustained judgement at the end so it rather dependent on your memory and analysis. History isn’t necessarily hard but it could take up a ton of your time when revising but it is more interesting than a subject like geography so it would be more motivating to revise but also check whether what your going to learn in history at school is what would interest you rather than just being pure boredom

Hello! As a current Y-11, I personally love history. I do agree with other users that it’s not easy, however not many GCSEs are. If they considering doing it, they must have some level of interest, so the content shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.
In my opinion, 12 and 16 markers are very easy once you get the hang of them as they’re quite methodical. I personally find the 8 markers in my Cold War topic the hardest
I would 100% recommend history it is so interesting and transferrable to real-world scenarios in present day!

From my experience everyone is super positive about history. At my school it’s probably the gcse people do the best in! It’s complicated but the types exam questions repeat and as long as you know content passing is fine. But it is very content heavy.
