Question About Deferring My Place for Adult Nursing at King’s College London

Hello,

I have been offered a place at King’s College London to start an Adult Nursing degree. I may not be eligible for Student Finance England (SFE) because I was temporary out from the UK for 1 year and 6 months.

I would like to know if King’s College London accepts deferral requests for this course, and if so, what the process is and any important dates I need to be aware of.

Thank you

Hello! KCL usually allows deferrals for most of their courses, including adult nursing. I also had to defer my course a kcl and the process is relatively easy. Login to your kings apply, and write them a message under deferral request. The message does not need to be extensive, just include a brief summary saying that you would like to defer your course for one year and briefly explain why. I also deferred due to not being eligible for student finance so your reason for deferring hopefully should be accepted hopefully. They get back to you relatively quickly once you send the message. Once it's been accepted then everything on your kings apply account and ucas will be automatically updated within 24 hours. As for important dates, just be sure to apply before you enrol onto your course, this happens in august so you do have time until then to request a deferral. Best of luck with your deferral request 🙂 !!!

Thank you so much for your message, I really appreciate your help.

I just wanted to double check if I’m able to defer my place at King's College London for one year, does that mean I should not enrol in August? And once the deferral is approved, will my UCAS update to show that I’ve deferred to 2027 and will start university in 2027 instead without applying again?

Also, when I begin university in 2027 through the deferral, how does the process work? Do I just start as a normal first-year student, or is there anything extra I need to do?

Sorry for all the questions I just really don’t want to make any mistakes because I don’t want to miss this opportunity. Thank you again for your support 🙂

No worries at all and no need to apologise for the questions!

Yes, if your deferral request goes through, you don't need to enrol for the 2026/27 year. You also won't be sent an invitation to enrol for that year so no need to worry about accidentally enrolling since you wont have the option to after you've deferred. Once you've deferred, UCAS will automatically update 24 hours later to show your new start date to be 2027, you don't need to do apply again or do anything much after the deferral.

When you start to enrol for 2027, it will be the same way everyone else does, the deferral doesn't effect the way you enrol for your deferred date. If i can remember correctly, enrolment invitations get sent out either on A-level results day or within that week of results day. No need to worry, you will start as a normal first-year student.

To sum up, after you have put in a deferral request and your request has been accepted, there's nothing else you need to do, KCL will handle the rest including updating King's apply, and UCAS. You can just sit back and relax until KCL release enrolment invitations for your intended year start which won't be until August 2027. I hope this calms your nerves a little.

If you have any other questions, feel free to send them

I’m very thankful for this information it’s honestly such a relief to have everything explained so clearly. Thank you so much for taking the time to walk me through it all; it’s really helped calm my nerves. If I need to know anything else about the process, I’ll be sure to contact you.

Wishing you all the best.
