universities for law

I'm an indian student planning to study law in the UK starting 2027. I'm looking for affordable unis that still offer good placements. Suggestions tell me that london unis are the best for law, but i'd like to know what universities outside london offer good experience and placements with a slightly lesser fee (around the 20k GBP bracket)

Hi there,

If you’re looking at universities outside London within the ~£20k range, Liverpool John Moores University is one option you could consider.

The LLB (Hons) Law is £17,750 per year for international students.

Some highlights of the course:

94% of students on this course said teaching staff were good at explaining things (National Student Survey 2025)

Attend solicitor/client interviews from your first year onwards

Opportunities in your final year to work on the Support Through Court scheme at Liverpool Civil & Family Justice Centre

Highly active Student Law Society

Direct progression onto professional practice training programmes

LJMU students have won the Oriel Chambers Mooting Competition four years in a row

Facilities include a mock courtroom and dedicated legal clinic space

You can find full details on modules, entry requirements, placements and funding here: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduates/2026/30578-law-llb-hons

If you have any questions about the course or the university, feel free to ask.

Hi @rangaaaa09 ,

If you want to keep your options open in terms of location, the University of Law is a great choice here. While there are two campuses in London (Moorgate and Bloomsbury), which will keep you close to the big law firms and busy city life, there are also many other campuses across the country - including Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Birmingham (see the full list here).

Currently, for a three-year full-time degree, course fees are £16,700 per year or £17,550 per year for non-London and London campuses respectively. You could also consider applying for an international scholarship or bursary, which you can read more about here.

As a student currently enrolled on the postgraduate conversion course, I honestly couldn't imagine studying law anywhere else. The teachers are practising/retired lawyers, so you get real-life insights into the practical application of the law; it has one of the largest careers services in the world, so you'll be able to find the support and opportunities to begin your legal career; and it has an outstanding alumni network, which can help to provide you with incredible networking opportunities. It really feels like the first step in your professional journey and is amazing preparation for whichever area of law you'd like to pursue!

Let me know if you have any questions and best of luck with your applications 😊
