Birmingham or Bristol undergraduate student lifestyle comparison

For an undergraduate (physics) student considering University of Birmingham and Bristol University as insurance choice:

Any obvious tradeoffs in terms of student life and opportunities in Birmingham (centred on Edgbaston / Selly Oaks campus) and Bristol (more centrally located in the city). Aware of some of the general differences, bigger city with more diversity and industrial connections in Birmingham, a "hipper" city with more "social cachet" in Bristol. Living costs higher in Bristol, etc.

Any other suggestions regarding the comparative merits of these two cities for students?

I'm sure you've looked at the course content etc as well?

Honestly, it really depends on what you want from the city. What do you enjoy? Have you been to both?

Hiya!
I’m Maya0 born and bred in Bristol and I’ve been in Birmingham for 3 years for uni, so I feel like I can give you a pretty good rundown.
Bristol is definitely smaller, much more compact, and has more of a community feel where everything is quite close together.
Birmingham, on the other hand, is a lot more spread out, but the main student areas still feel really social and community-based once you settle in.
Hope that helps a bit! 😊
