Children’s nursing

Hi, i thought i’d write a message to see if anyone’s starting children’s nursing this year! I’m still torn between UOM or UOS, any recommendations?

Hi,

Since they both offer NMC approved nursing courses, they’re both equally good for nursing. Think about which university offers more student support? (you will need a lot of support as a nursing student), what are the placement to skills ratio like? would you like to spend more time at hospital placements or more in university simulation skills?
Visit the universities of their offer days and ask lecturers, students, inspect the campus and see which one you prefer.

Hi there @georgiaellen0708,

League tables and graduate prospects are a useful starting point when it comes to choosing universities but do not give a full picture when it comes to the student experience. It might be beneficial to look at these, as wel as what employers want - which universities/degrees are professionally accredited. What connections does the university have with employers, what professional accreditation does the course offer, what industrial experience/internship opportunities are offered?

Outside of careers and academics, it would be useful to try and speak to students studying your course or even just studying at universities you are considering, here on The Student Room (as you are already doing) or on Unibuddy to try and gauge their experiences, thoughts and feelings, see what societies are on offer or what support is available, etc. You could also try and find YouTube videos to actually see campuses and facilities.

With a course like children's nursing, you shouldn't really have to worry about graduate prospects, so it might be more useful to consider which university suits you best, in terms of things like location, activities, opportunities, safety. I would just suggest weighing up the pros and cons and try and choose more based on your preferences rather than statistics.

I hope that this helps and that you get accepted into the university you pick!
