Hi there! 😁

I’m currently a final-year student at London Met, although I study Digital Media rather than Social Work.
From what I’ve seen on the course page, the MSc Social Work at London Met is very practice-focused. The programme includes two assessed practice placements across the course (one in Year 1 and one in Year 2), and students complete at least 170 days in real social work settings, which helps you build experience while studying.
London Met also has a very diverse student community and strong links with organisations across London, which can be useful when it comes to placements and professional networking.

If you’re deciding between LSBU and London Met, I’d recommend comparing things like:

placement opportunities

course modules and structure

support services

the campus environment

A really good step would be attending an open day so you can speak directly with lecturers and current students on the course. London Met has a Holloway campus open day on Saturday 18 April, which could be useful if you’re considering studying there.

You can check the course details here as well: https://www.londonmet.ac.uk/courses/postgraduate/social-work---msc/
Hope that helps a bit! 🙌

LSBU is by far the sensible choice. London Met has been going downhill for the past 3-4 years and they are currently making hundreds of teaching staff redundant, many in the School where SW is located. The only plus is that you will get a first at London Met as long as you don’t kill anyone! They hand out firsts in SW for fun. LSBU is the sensible choice.

Hey there, if you are thinking about postgraduate Social Work at LSBU, one of the lovely things about it is the location. The university is right in central London, so you are studying in a place where there is so much diversity and a strong professional environment around you. It is also really convenient to get to, which makes a big difference day to day.

I also think LSBU is a really supportive place for postgraduate study. From what I have seen, there is good academic support, helpful library and learning resources, and wellbeing support as well, so you do not feel like you are just left on your own. I did my PhD at LSBU, so I honestly have a real love for postgraduate life there. I found it to be a welcoming environment where you are taken seriously in your studies.

Another thing I liked about postgraduate study at LSBU is that there is usually a mature mix of students, including people coming back into education and people with professional experience already. That can make discussions feel more grounded, especially for a course like Social Work.

You are very welcome to come to a PG Southwark Open Day on Wednesday 11th March 2026 where you can meet lecturers, explore the facilities, and get clear answers about courses and support (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days). If you cannot make it for an open day, you can book a campus tour on a day that suits you (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days). You can also chat with our current students on Unibuddy to hear their experiences and ask your questions directly (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat).

I hope that helps!

It’s on Holloway Road. One of the busiest and most polluted roads in London. Police sirens are constantly heard through lectures - a prime area for phone thieves. But you will definitely get a first class degree if you take SW at London Met. Everyone does. I was at a graduation ceremony out of those graduating from SW almost everyone graduated with a first. Standards? What standards?
