Which Aero offer is best value?

I have Aerospace Engineering offers from Durham, Bristol, Bath and Birmingham. Predicted A* Maths, A Physics, A Further Maths. I care most about future career prospects and money (value for living costs + grad outcomes). Which would you firm/insure and why? Any insight on placements, employer links, and what grads end up doing? 🚀💸
I also care about my social life there, and a good islamic community.

I reckon bath and bristol are the two you should go with, I dont want to tell you in which order as it is very subjective past the point of whittling your options down to two.

Firstly, congratulations on your offers. So if it’s prestige you are going for - Bristol wins. And this has a strong Muslim community. Bath also is great but a smaller community. Birmingham is not as high up in the rankings but still top 10 and definitely a strong community there. I would make sure you visit them all and get a feel for them if you can. You’ll be there for a long while. Oh and cost wise - Bristol and Bath will be expensive and Bristol is known to be challenging to find accommodation after the first year. Birmingham is a cheaper alternative with a strong course too.

Hi there,

As a Durham Representative, I'll give you some information about these points outlined - I can't tell you what the right decision is, but hopefully it can give you some ideas as to what studying at Durham is like. 🙂

Placements: Students can apply to be transferred onto either the with Year Abroad or with Placement pathway during the second year. Places on these pathways are in high demand and if you are chosen your studies will extend from three years to four. Durham University will support you throughout this process, with mock interviews/practice tests/opportunities promoted by departments.

As per the Department of Engineering website, 96%of students in graduate-level employment within 15 months of graduation (The Guardian University Guide 2025). You can find out more about careers and employability here: https://www.durham.ac.uk/departments/academic/engineering/undergraduate-study/employability/.

Durham is a reasonably small place, meaning some people do find the social life to be limited. Although there are numerous nice cafes, restaurants and activities, it is a small area. However, with good transport links, you're only ever a bus or train away from somewhere new. 🙂

Durham also has ISOC - a student-run body that serves as the focal point for Muslims in Durham: https://duisoccom.wordpress.com. ISOC has a range of functions such as:
Social Functions
DUISOC seeks to foster, develop and strengthen the community of Muslim students and students interested in Islam by providing and facilitating spaces for socialising, networking and recreation that are congruent with Islamic beliefs and principles.

Religious Functions
DUISOC seeks to support the religious & spiritual lives of Muslim students through the provision of services such as the organisation of Friday & congregational prayers; iftar during Ramadhan; and Quranic & Islamic lessons, as well as through representation within the University by cultivating meaningful working relationships, especially with the Chaplaincy.

Community Functions
DUISOC co-manages the University's 2 Islamic Prayer Rooms, which are the only Islamic prayer spaces in Durham City. These venues are not only relied on by Muslim staff and students at the University, but members of the local resident community as well. DUISOC plays a critical role in providing direction, organisation and leadership for Islamic and Muslim affairs in Durham City by working closely with the local communityy and serving as the de facto Islamic authority in making religious determinations such as prayer times & Islamic calendar.

You can check out their instagram at @duisoc. 😊

I hope this helps, let me know if there's anything else I can help with.
-Rosie (DU Representative)
