Is doing the edexcel maths AEA worth it?

I've applied to Durham for maths and physics but I'm hoping to transfer to straight maths in the second year; I'm wondering if it'd be worth doing it uni wise. I'm also interested in doing it, because I quite like the papers and it seems like an "easy" way to boost my CV etc outside of school.

If the cost isn't an issue, I don't see why you shouldn't do it. You seem capable

Hi there,

I'm glad to hear you've applied to Durham! From my understanding, you will be able to transfer to straight maths in year 2, provided you have taken the correct modules and there is capacity. Transfers are typically subject to achieving suitable grades in your first-year maths modules.

The Edexcel Advanced Extension Award sounds like an interesting opportunity, and if you're interested in the papers generally, I think it would be a good idea! You're right in saying it'll boost your CV, and show commitment to the subject outside of general learning. In terms of this being relevant to the transfer, I think this decision will be predominantly based on your first-year grades as stated previously, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to strengthen your academic profile. 🙂

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions about studying at Durham. 😊
