A Scholarship Helped Secure My Postgraduate Place at City St George’s

Thinking about applying for a scholarship to help fund your postgraduate studies? Or wondering where to start when it comes to postgraduate funding? That was exactly how I felt when I received my offer to study MSc Genomic Medicine at City St George’s, University of London.

Like many people considering postgraduate study, funding was a major factor for me. One thing I’ve learned since applying is that City St George’s offers a strong range of course-specific and university-wide scholarships for offer-holders, particularly across health, science, and professional programmes. In my case, I was awarded the MSc Genomic Medicine Scholarship, which covered my tuition fees and made accepting my place possible.

What stood out to me is that some scholarships here don’t require a separate application. For my course, all applicants were automatically considered based on their personal statement and interview, which takes a lot of pressure off, especially if you’re already juggling applications, work, or other commitments. I would recommend looking through the City St George’s Scholarship Finder and noting when the deadline for applications is.

Beyond the financial support, receiving a scholarship felt like recognition of my academic potential and ambition. It’s also allowed me to engage more fully with my studies and wider university life, without the constant stress of finances.

If you’re looking at postgraduate study and funding is a concern, City St George’s is definitely worth considering, not just for the courses themselves, but for the way scholarships are embedded into programmes and actively used to support students.

My main advice would be to research funding early, submit strong course applications, and keep an eye on scholarship deadlines (many close around June/July). Even if you’re unsure, it’s worth applying, and at City St George’s, you may be considered automatically just by applying for the course.

Good luck to everyone exploring postgraduate options!
