Unsure about my uni degree choice

I’m currently in my first year studying biomedical sciences. During my A levels my favourite subject was always history however I decided not to choose it as a degree as I felt there was few career options after graduating. I chose biomedical sciences with the hopes of becoming a clinical scientist. However, I keep having this sinking feeling that I’m making the wrong choice and I miss history all the time. Although I do enjoy some parts of my course currently I seem to not enjoy more and more topics and I dread waking up and going into university most days. I’m unsure what to do because I know if I continue on my current degree I’ll have multiple career options after graduating but now I don’t even know if those careers are for me. If I change courses I’m sure I’ll love history but I’m worried about career prospects afterwards. Either way I don’t want to stick with a course and end up hating it and it’s too late to change courses.

Hi,

If you want to do history but is worried about the career prospect of it then try and look into becoming a history teacher? going into the education career with a history degree may be a more stable career pathway. Otherwise, look into the different career routes biomedical sciences degree can offer you and see if any of them interest you! such as research, pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, etc.

Hi,
I’ve looked into the career prospects with history but teaching doesn’t interest me and I feel like that’s one of the main career paths. I would be interested in being a historian and going into research but that field is really competitive and hard to get into. In terms of biomedical sciences I am still interested in clinical sciences but my lack of interest for my course now is making me question whether I will even enjoy clinical sciences as a career.
