Get out of student house contract halfway through tenancy

I am currently in my second year of university and I am living in a student house with 3 other girls. Unfortunately I have been hit with the second year house curse :frown: I signed this tenancy with people that I knew for about 3 months back in first year and I completely regret it.

They are so bloody dirty and don't clean anything in the house, every week I am the only one who takes the bins out and bothers to clean both the bathroom and kitchen. There's even been incidents where their kitchen cupboards are completely mouldy due to rotten food and all they do is video it and laugh, when it isn't even remotely funny. Of course I tell them to clean up their mess but their standard of clean is very questionable... this includes leaving dirty dishes with food for up to a week on the counter. They don't even bother to change the shower mat for MONTHS, which is how I know they are genuinely the problem and I am not being overdramatic😭I don't even know what happened because in first year they kept their rooms and ensuite's COMPLETELY spotless, clean and smelled so fresh which is why I trusted to live with them again (last year was in uni halls).

I am the lead tenant for the house and all rent payments go to my account and to the landlord, so I don't know how difficult it would be for me to get out of this contract as it is currently March and the tenancy ends in September. I know that I would have to find a replacement tenant but that isn't really a problem for me. The reason I got into it so quickly is because my Uni city is one where housing is the only option, as private accommodations are insanely expensive (e.g. £230pw minimum 51 week contracts).

If I do manage to get out of this contract I am planning to commute until I finish my studies, even though it's a 3 hour train ride (one way) as I won't be able to afford other accommodation. I am also paying an insane amount for a house that is barely even standing.

So could anyone please give me any advice on how to get out of this contract as I am still unsure on how it works.

Thank you!
