revision help

Hi I just wanted some advice on revision and how to better my grades :smile:
Currently I am at the start of year 12. Our mocks are coming up(28 april) which are a big deal since I am interested in early entry for dentistry .
the subjects I am doing are biology(OCR A), chemistry(AQA), computer science(OCR).
For revision I am doing the following :
-biology (flashcards by miss estruch, uplearn and some exam practice from pmt)
-chemistry (making cheat sheets and some exam practice and uplearn)
- computer science (mindmaps and exam questions from pmt)

# we recently did in class mock test and got our first set of forecast grades that we may be working at for now:
bio = A(low)
chem = A
comp = A

would love any advice :smile:
also when should I start preparing for ucat exam
have not found anyone in my year group doing the same subjects as me

Hey!
First of all just wanted to say well done! you are doing great!!
I do bio and chem so I can advise you on those and the UCAT.

Don't start UCAT prep until about 2 months before your exam (so after your summer mocks). The way you reivse the UCAT is very different from your studies and that it is important to look at it like a sprint rather than a marathon.

About chem and bio, look where you are going wrong and ANALYSE what is going wrong. When I do PPQs I have a little key system.
Knowledge Problem=K
Misreading=RTFQ
Maths=M
Exam Technique=ET
You can keep track of these in a spreadsheet (I use Notion) and you will start to see patterns. You should always work in a ranking system and print out the spec to use a highlighting system to order your priorities. You need to ask yourself why are you not getting higher basically.

Hope this helps!

Hey @lovingGhost59,

Congratulations on an excellent set of mock grades! 😁

I'd try to focus on Biology first - although it's still an A, you've identified it as your lowest A. Skim through any previous class tests or your most recent mock and write down where you tend to lose the most marks. It might be on definitions, calculation questions or even on specific topics. Once you've done that, you should have a list of what exactly you need to brush up on to improve your grade further.

It's great that you're so passionate about dentistry and want to start preparing for the UCAT, but as mentioned above, summer will likely be the best time to do this as you won't have to worry about A-Levels as much during this time.

Once again, well done on your mock grades and keep up the good revision!
