Unspecified word count

Hello here
I'm currently looking at potential universities to apply for a postgraduate course, and I've noticed that some of them, like Buckinghamshire New University and Glasgow Caledonian University, didn't explicitly state the word count for applicants' personal statements on their website
In comparison, DMU gave a 500-word limit on their website and Imperial College London recommended anywhere between 500 to 1000 words or 1 to 2 pages of A4
So, what am I supposed to do when I'm merely told to keep it concise ? As it is the case for GCU
"Concise" could be anything from 300 to 600 words
Thanks in advance for your help
I’d recommend just calling the academic department to confirm what they expect.

There often isn’t a hard limit and ‘concise’ might just mean “avoid writing six pages of text’ which is what I had to read through recently:smile:

Presumably you have now changed the regulations to limit such verbosity??? 😆

Sadly not, but the time I spent reviewing it was around the same as a one page statement, so it’s kind of self levelling.

The biggest mistake that students make is failing to make their statements engaging. I always remind them it might be the 40th one I read on a Friday

I'm sure that you have them the same consideration as every other applicant...!!! 😃

Presumably applicants need to add "and make it engaging" when they instruct ChatGPT to write their PS??? 😳

Hi there,

I hope you are doing well! i would recommend calling up the universities as this will be the most accurate answer you can get. I would suggest calling the student services as they can typically direct you to a more appropriate route that will give you specific answers.

Hope this helps!
