Gcse options - urgent help

MY OPTIONS ARE DUE TMR!!!
HELP!

MY CURRENT OPTIONS ARE:
COMBINED SCIENCE, GERMAN, FRENCH, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, ENG LIT AND ENG LANG, MATH AND FURTHER MATH.

I AM LEANING TOWARDS DOING A LANGUAGE JOB ROUTE AND DOING FRENCH, GERMAN AND HISTORY AT A-LEVEL.
HOWEVER, I AM STILL NOT SURE ABOUT PICKING COMBINED SCIENCE(even though i dont like science) as language really limits jobs but science opens lots of pathways? Am I limiting my choices here in the future with these options
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
PLEASE HELP ASAP !!!!

As someone who does triple science, I'd personally say if you genuienly want to do this combo, go for it.

If you want to do one of the three main sciences in the future (at sixth form), as long as you do well enough in combined, I think you generally still have the door open (I'm talking generally, not for specific really hard to get into selective sixth forms). So you're not closing science specific doors really. As long as you get high enough it doesn't matter that much at GCSEs.

However you may not be able to do certain language courses at some sixth forms if you don't take it as a GCSE (as far as I understand it), which is why I recommend, if you're commited to it, taking the languages. Also you're doing further maths, that definitely covers STEM bases, in fact more than triple does imo

Basically, this combo closes off pretty much no doors to you, as far as I can tell. It's pretty extensive and varied. Bear in mind, that's 10 qualifications by my count. I personally take 9, you're in a better spot than lots with this combo

At the end of the day, this is just one person's opinion, please do not base your decision purely off of what I say. Consider about what you'll enjoy more etc, do some last minute research (I'm sure there have been others in similar positions) and talk to someone who knows you about it too I think

Best of luck with your decision

There is absolutely no point in keeping options open if they are options that you do not want. Doing combined science will not prevent you from doing science at a level (should you desire to) but if you dont do history/german/french at gcse then you may not be able to take that subject for a level. Stick with your current options 🙂

I agree with the other replies that you should pick GCSEs for the languages and history as you’d like to pursue them in future.
Doing combined science closes hardly any doors and may actually make it easier for you to achieve better grades in case you choose to take science A levels in future as sixth forms don’t usually care if you did triple or combined. This would only be a disadvantage if you actually picked science subjects at A level as you’d miss out on a little bit of knowledge that triple students would already have so you’d have to catch up to them if those topics become relevant in the A level course.

Overall you’d lose more from not picking history, French or German as sixth forms will generally require the GCSE in those subjects to take them for A level just go with what you enjoy and you think you’d like to pursue in future

Would it be harder to achieve a Grade 9 in combined science if I am particularly worse in 1 of them as it is an average of all three instead of seperate?

Yes. However, combined science is easier so your grades overall should be higher.

I mean it depends what you mean when you say you’re worse at it. If you’re getting like 997 for the 3 separately that might drop you to a 9-8 or 8-8 in combined but it won’t be absolutely massive. If you’d rather get good grades in the 2 you think you’re better at and be fine with a lower grade in the third, separate can still work but getting a lower grade in one of the three won’t drop you so far that getting a 9 is impossible if your performance in the other two is still great.
It’s also important to consider that separate sciences have like 30% more content to cover so that could make the difference in your grades bigger were you to struggle with the additional content and that could end up dragging your grades down further than the average taken in combined.
