Second undergraduate degree eligibility

Hello,

I currently hold a Bachelors degree in Dental Hygiene. I want to study undergraduate degree in Dentistry in Cardiff University (5 years). I’ve already used SFE for tuition fees for the first bachelors degree. Am I eligible for Tuition fees/maintenance loan as it’s my second degree?

Hi there,

When does the course start and do you currently live in England and will move to Wales for the purpose of study?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,
I live in England and would move to Wales, course starts September 2026. Alternatively I have an option to study in Kings College London, start date is also September 2026.

As per previous, I’d like to know whether i’m eligible for the tuition and maintenance loan as this would be my second undergraduate degree. Thanks.

Hi there,

Can you confirm where you studied your Bachelors degree in Dental Hygiene?
Was this a Full Time or Part Time course?
How many years was the course in total?

Thank you, Stephen

Hello,

It was London South Bank University, 3 year course, full time.

Hi again, students who have previously studied and already hold a qualification (honours or higher) would only be eligible for Maintenance Loan support only for years 1-4, then a reduced Rate Maintenance loan for any subsequent years.

Are there no exceptions for Dentistry?

Hi again,

No, the only other option than the Undergraduate entry would be Graduate Entry courses.

The support for this is as follows:

Year 1:

Tuition Fees:
SFE would pay up to £5,785 - (student self funds £3,465).

Maintenance Loan:
Student eligible for full maintenance loan support.

Years 2-4:

Tuition Fees:
SFE would pay up to £5,535 - (NHS pays up to £3,715).

Maintenance Loan:
Student eligible for Reduced Rate Maintenance Loan only.

Stephen.
