St Andrews or Glasgow IR+French/Politics

I currently have unconditional offers for French and International Relations at St Andrews and French and Politics at Glasgow and need to decide between them. I’m a Scottish student from Edinburgh and will be 17 when I go to uni. Can anyone help me weigh the pros and cons?

Congratulations! Two unconditional offers is insane- you should be so chuffed with yourself!

Obviously, compare the course. Which one makes you more excited?

They're very different areas: would you rather live in a city or a town?

If you are planning on working part-time, have a look at which area has better job opportunities.

Look at the cost of living in each area, and the cost of accommodation.

See what the study abroad/work placement opportunities are like, if that is something your interested in.

What are your hobbies? Maybe take a look at what societies each uni has, or which area is better for it. Say you love surfing (random example but you get my point), Glasgow probably won't be too handy for that, but it will likely have a much better music scene.

Good luck! I've also applied to both St Andrews and Glasgow

Thank you! May I ask, what would be your personal preference and why?

I can't really choose, because I'm still waiting for a response from St Andrews. If I could choose though, it would probably be St Andrews, because I really love the location and the fact that it's on the smaller side. The courses are on equal footing for me

Hi, i'm in year 12 and hoping to apply for the same course when the time comes, no worries if not, but would you know or were you told any tips that you found particularly useful for the application process, especially in terms of the personal statement and what is most important to include?
