Ramadan Tips from a final year student

Hi everyone, it’s Saira here, a final-year student currently observing Ramadan, and I wanted to share a few tips and insights that have helped me balance fasting with uni life, deadlines, and general wellbeing.

- Plan your schedule around fasting - I try to get most of my work done when my energy is higher, and leave slightly less demanding tasks for later in the day. Knowing when I’m most productive has made a big difference.

- Meal prep and hydration - Preparing Suhoor and Iftar in advance helps me save time and avoid feeling sluggish. Drinking enough water between Iftar and Suhoor really helps with concentration and stamina.

- Break your study into focused sessions - I’ve found one-hour bursts with short breaks work best for me. It prevents burnout, especially when energy dips in the afternoon.

- Communicate with lecturers if needed - Most staff are understanding, especially if deadlines coincide with fasting. It’s always better to give a heads-up rather than stress over catching up later.

- Take care of your wellbeing - Small things like short walks, or even a quick nap can help recharge your energy and keep your focus sharp.

- Connect with others - Sharing Iftar with friends or fellow students makes the experience more enjoyable and provides moral support during particularly busy weeks.

Being in your final year while observing Ramadan can definitely be challenging, but it’s also rewarding. With planning, self-care, and a bit of flexibility, it’s very manageable. I hope these tips help anyone balancing uni and fasting!
