LIPA audition questions : )

2 questions:

1- how many people make it from the online example submissions to in person auditions

2- what’s the differences between the songwriting course and the popular, contemporary and commercial course?

i originally applied for songwriting but the offered me a audition for p,c&c instead

Hey! Im midway through my first year of Performance & Songwriting and this is what i can tell ya:

I dont really have an answer for your first question, however, PCC focuses a lot more on the hands on experience rather than the academic part of music
You will have dancing, singing, and acting lessons - lowkey a triple threat hahaha
Performance and Songwriting, you will have songwriting classes ofc but also essays - you’ll still get to perform a lot and have great opportunities. We do lead sheets and vocal lessons etc but we dont do anything dance and acting wise (unless you mae friends in those courses which is a huge possibility but none of it is obligatory)- it really just depends how focused on music you want to be - hope this helped, lmk if you have anymore questions

Hiya!!
Thank you so much!! That’s really cool to know, i figured the acting/dance classes were just for the contemporary pop voice and performance course, i used to do a lot a musical theatre and was stuck between music and musical theatre to apply for so this’ll be right up my alley lol, i play bass for will my 1to1 lessons be on that or will i also have vocal lessons?

Also do you have any tips on auditioning ect, LIPA is my top choice by a mile and i really wanna get in (like as soon as i walked onto campus for an open day i was like, i have to go here”) but i know there aren’t many places on the courses!

Also do you remember how difficult the music theory test section was? i have a little bit of knowledge and am learning more from my bass tutor but im just worried it wont be enough.

Thank you so much for your help i really appreciate it!!!

Your 121 lessons will be in whatever your first instrument is so like what you audition with. I auditioned with voice and accompanied myself with a guitar so my main instrument is voice and my 121s are vocal

Tbh I think my biggest tip is dont be nervous or dont let them see that you are nervous - tell them the experience that you have when they ask you etc. im a bit unsure on how the PCC audition would be but for mine i had to do 2 originals - i dont think you have to do that tho, it all depends on the instrument that you apply with as well - is your main instrument bass?

For the music theory part honestly dont stress - as long as you have your grade 5 by September you’ll be fine - they dont care abt that part as much as the rest just keep in mind that you will have tests about theory at the end of the academic year

Lmk if you have anymore questions:smile:

thank you!! yeah bass is my main instrument but i also play guitar and sing, is it possible to get extra lessons outside of 121s on different instruments? i’d really love to get better at singing!!

Not sure if this is possible but if you have any friends on the pcc course would it be possible to see if they have any advice from there audition experience!!

thank you again for all your help!!!

Unfortunately, you only get 121 with your main instrument but you can always get a private tutor. Tbh I had the same mindset as you but they warn you on the first days not to get yourself too busy outside of uni because the workload is a lot - and they are right - i rarely find myself free and if i am, im stressing about what i have to do haha

I’ll see if any of my friends have any advice and ill get back to ya - whens your audition?xx

Heyy, that’s good!

I spoke to a friend in pcc and they said they only had to do 2 songs (non-originals) and a theory test. Honestly should just be the 2 songs, theory test, and some talk about your experience - pls dont stress its easier than you think
