Need help with deciding on a university 26/27

Hi, i’ve whittled down my five offers to three and I am now struggling to decide which university to attend. I have only been to one open day so far but would still like any advice from people at the universities, especially if they are doing these courses:
-Law, media and creative industries @ Bournemouth University
-Business and Management and Media
Communications (Professional Placement Year) @ Bath Spa University
-Music Business, Events and Media @ BIMM Brighton.
Alternatively, if anyone could recommend an UG Degree that combines Law with Media to apply for it would be appreciated

Hi

Congrats on narrowing it down to three, that’s already a big step. Visiting open days will probably help a lot, but a few things about those options might help you think about it.
The course at Bournemouth University is quite unique because it actually combines a full law degree with media and creative industries. You still study core legal subjects but also look at things like media law, intellectual property and digital rights, which can be really useful if you’re interested in things like entertainment, broadcasting or content creation.
The course at Bath Spa University is more business focused, so it’s less about law and more about how media organisations are run, things like management, communication and industry placements. If you see yourself working more on the business side of media companies rather than legal roles, that might suit you better.
BIMM University in Brighton is quite different again. BIMM courses tend to be very industry focused and practical, especially around music, events and media production. It’s a good choice if you want to work directly in the music or events industries rather than something like law or corporate media.
If your main interest is law combined with media, the Bournemouth course is actually quite a good fit because it specialises in legal issues in the creative industries like film, fashion and digital media.
Honestly the biggest thing will be which course content excites you the most. If you’re more interested in legal issues in media, Bournemouth probably makes the most sense. If you want to manage or work within media companies, Bath Spa might fit better. If you want to work directly in music/events, BIMM is more industry specific. Goodluck!

Hi,

I’d definitely recommend going to the offer holder days if you can- especially in your case because your courses are all quite different. It’s probably the best way to get a real feel for what each uni and course is like beyond just reading about them.

Try to speak to current students on your course, sit in on a lecture if possible, and ask about things like workload, support, and what opportunities they’ve actually had (placements, internships, etc.).

Also, the placement year at Bath Spa is a really good option to consider. A lot of people find it really valuable, and some even end up getting jobs from their placement, which is a big plus. That said, it’s worth asking what companies students usually go to and how much support the uni gives, as it can be competitive.

Overall, I think the main thing is figuring out which direction you want to go in, as your options are quite different- especially with one being a Law degree and the others being more media/business focused.

Hope that helps 😊
