Hi there,
I'm a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student, and without a doubt, sport has been the best part of my time at university so far.
I'm part of both the weightlifting and athletics clubs, and over the last three years I've gotten to represent the uni at competitions around the country, helped to run the weightlifting club as part of the committee, and even volunteered as the Inclusion and Culture Convenor of the sports association. I've met my closest friends through sport, grown personally and professionally, and had the best time!
With over 50 sports clubs to choose from, ranging from swimming to skydiving, trampolining to tennis and everything in between, there really is something for everyone. The majority of clubs offer both recreational and competitive training sessions at varying levels, and many compete nationally in BUCS and other leagues. There is also a great sporting community and culture with weekly nights out, socials and yearly events.
During Welcome Week, you can come along to the Sports Fayre and chat to all the sports clubs, find out how to join and choose which one you like best!
Sport is such an amazing way to meet people, stay healthy both mentally and physically, and have a whole lot of fun at university. I would encourage everyone, whether you're an elite athlete or complete beginner, to join a club when you come to uni!
All the best,
Elise
