Choosing a medical school

Hii! I’ve received offers from kings EMDP, queen mary and city St George’s for medicine and I’m not sure which one would be best. I really like Kings but the programme is 6 years rather than five so I’m rlly struggling to decide.

I'd go King's personally, 6 years at a uni you'll love is better than 5 at a uni you'll find meh. (I love king's alot more personally too!!!)

Hi! Congrats on your offers - that’s a great position to be in 😊

I’m a student ambassador at City St George’s, University of London, studying MSc Genomic Medicine, so while I can’t comment too much on the internal experience at the other universities, I can share a bit about why many students choose City St George’s for Medicine.

One of the biggest strengths is how clinically focused the course is. The university has a long history of medical education, and all teaching is based in St George’s Hospital, which means you’re learning in an environment that’s very centred around real healthcare practice from Day 1. Students get exposure to clinical settings early, and there’s a strong emphasis on preparing them for working in the NHS.

Another advantage is the diverse range of clinical placements across London and the surrounding area, which gives students experience with different patient populations and healthcare settings. London is also a great place to study medicine because of the variety of hospitals and research opportunities available.

The environment is also very healthcare-focused since most students on the Tooting campus study medicine or other clinical subjects, which creates a really collaborative atmosphere with other future healthcare professionals.

My advice would be to think about:
The course structure and teaching style
Placement opportunities
Campus environment and where you feel most comfortable (attend open days if you can!)
Whether the additional year at King’s is something you see as beneficial or not

All three are strong universities for Medicine, so you really can’t go too wrong - it’s more about which programme and environment feels like the best fit for you.

Happy to answer any questions about studying at City St George’s if that helps!

Hello,

Congratulations on your offer! I am a Psychology student at City St George’s University of London and thought I could share a little bit about my experience. The community at City St George’s is very accepting and warm. There are more than 200 societies, and it is very easy to connect and make friends! There are always networking, sports, socialising, and employability events throughout the year.
I recommend visiting the university on an Open Day to get a better sense of what it would be like to be a City St George’s student: https://www.citystgeorges.ac.uk/prospective-students/open-events-and-fairs

Good luck!
