Friends at Sixth Form

I’m going to sixth form this September and am really nervous about making friends. For context, I’ve struggled to make friends in secondary school and am looking to start fresh. Out of my secondary school friends, theres a possibility I might stay in contact with 3, my best friend (who I’ll definitely put the effort in with), a close friend and a friend who is going to the same sixth form as me - but we’re not close despite hanging out a few times.

I’m going to a sixth form attached to a secondary because I don’t want to go to college and I don’t like the independent sixth forms in my area. However, they take very few external students and friend groups will already pre exist.

Four other girls are going (including my friend) but they’re a friend group. I have tried to talk to them a bit but I get the impression that it would never work out as they seem uninterested.

I’m scared I’ll go through another 2 years of being alone after 5 already. What is sixth form like for people like me who really try to make friends but are a little awkward sometimes?

As a new sixth form student myself, I'd say that you shouldn't worry about it too much. I also worried about making friends when I started my A-levels last September but I eventually realised that some internal students were also looking for new friends at sixth form.

Also, at A-levels you do way less subjects so since most people choose subjects based on their interests, it's easier to connect with them in class. Maybe join a club or a sports team or something like that? The more you interact with different people the more likely it is that you will become friends.

As long as you actively try to make friends and stay open I'm sure that you'll make a ton of friends. : )
