Might’ve messed up PPF2 form, need clarification

I was helping my Mum do the PFF2 form with me. I have 2 older sisters, one of whom is employed but receives a small income on minimum wage, the other one is unemployed. I put both their details and everything down in the dependant section as I’m an idiot and I thought that dependants were people who just received housing from your parents. Both of them receive housing from my mum obviously but beyond that they don’t get financial support from my mum. Does that mean they don’t classify as dependants? Both aren’t in higher education by the way. Spoke to someone on the phone today about this and they told me I should send a cover letter to SFE clarifying this. SFE asked me for bank statement proof of financial support that my mum sends to my siblings but there’s virtually none seen as they don’t need anything beyond a house to live in. Was the speaker right and is that just what I should do? Also I’ve written a cover letter with my mum just explaining that we misunderstood the section on a google doc form, will I have to include her signature when sending the cover letter?

Hi ghaloasjmnasj,

Both are correct dependent on the situation. If the dependents are over the age of 18, we need proof to show that they are dependent on the sponsor. If it was an error and they are not dependent, a cover letter without evidence if suffice so that they can be removed from the dependents section of the sponsor details.

Thanks, Clare

Why am I recieving different responses from your team? And how do I prove that they live in the same home as my mother? I don’t understand. Just to clarify once again, one is unemployed, beyond living with my mother she receives zero financial support from her. Nothing in her bank statement to show she regularly receives money. Does literally just one send from my mother to her within a 2 month time span suffice? The other one is employed but at a minimum wage job, makes £1300 a month at most. Still, she lives with my mother therefore counts on her for housing. Both of those classify as dependants? Why did the person on the phone give me something completely different? I do apologise but your response hasn’t helped me at all and I can’t tell if there were some spelling errors in your message.

Hi ghaloasjmnasj,

I am sorry my previous message was not helpful to you, I am here to help as best as I can, I can also assure you that there are no spelling errors in my previous response. Both are true statements depending on what the considers the situation to be but I cannot account for the previous advice provided by the other advisers whom you may have previously spoken to regarding this. Generally dependents are children as they are financially dependent on their parent. If the sponsor states that a child over the age of 18 is dependent on them, then we can take that into account on the assessment however, proof is usually required such as evidence of income they provide to the child or if there are bills paid on their behalf etc due to their age. If they incorrectly indicated that they are financially dependent on the parent of the student, then we can remove them from the assessment with a cover letter, rather than sending evidence to show they are dependent. From what you have stated in your previous message, it doesn't sound like your siblings are dependent on your sponsor, you may need to confirm this with your mother directly. If she determines that they are not financially dependent on her, then a cover letter explaining that this was ticked on the form in error, no further evidence would be required and your application can then be finalised. I hope this helps.

Thanks, Clare
