The Anthony Nolan Trust is holding the event at the East London Mosque and Muslim centre to mark the start of a campaign to attract Asian donors.

On the trust's donor register less than 3% are Asian but last year 47 Asian patients needed a transplant in the UK. The family of toddler Ibrahim Meer, who died in May 2002, are supporting the campaign. The clinic takes place from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday.

Ethnic origin is believed to be important when matching donors and patients as the "markers" that are tested when searching for a suitable donor are genetically
