Pet Friendly Acom

Hi,
I'm looking to study BSL with deaf studies at YSJ but I'd like to move with my dog and small caged pet. They're not service animals.
Does anyone know any pet friendly accommodation?

Thanks

Very unlikely you'll find one, luv. There's too much complications with having pets in student accommodation (damage, pet fights since you won't be the only one, other peoples allergies), which is why it's only reserved for service animals

Plus it's generally unfair on your pets as moving is known to stress them out. So moving once, then again in practically under a year? Not the best for their well-being. Then the additional not enough space, especially for a dog.

Your best bet will be going shared housing after 1st year (as I recommend dorms for the 1st, but that's up to you), as it's not temporary like student dorms and you don't need to find additional accommodation or move back home during the summer. Which is less stressful for you, and again, your little ones. And if you play your cards right, shared is cheaper than student accommodation, so you will have more money to spare to keep them comfortable and happy

I know it sucks, but that's just how it is. I've been trying my hardest during my first year to get a job that can sustain a shared apartment during the summer when we don't have loan payments, so I can bring my cat up and not have to worry about moving dorms every year and stressing her out

I'm unfortunately in a situation where I can not leave my pets at home, which is why I'm looking for any pet friendly accommodation.

****, dude. I'm sorry you're in that situation.

Do you have any friends, external family members, or friends with family who wouldn't mind caring for them for a year? Maybe someone who is thinking about having a pet, but is on the fence, and suggesting it as a way to see if they'll want their own in the future?

There is also pet boarding options, but a quick look tells me they're not cheap + I only see some for dogs and cats.

Another would be foster care; there's some services that will take your pets and foster them until you're in a better situation where your pets will be safe.

You can also try reaching out to your university options independently, explain your situation, and ask what they suggest. You never know if one may be willing to accommodate your request, so it's always good to try

Hi Anon,

As another user mentioned, it's typically very uncommon for agencies to allow pets in their properties. All I can suggest is reaching out to them via email, explaining the pets you have/their temperament etc. and asking about their policies around pets.

Good luck!

Best wishes,
