RVC or Nottingham??? and Why???

I would love some help!

RVC or Nottingham for Vet med? I am interested in hands on experience, I also want to have some fun, meet people and socialise with other non vet students. I have selected these 2 as my top 2 and just need some great advise! Also pros and cons and what you love about the uni. Also any help re choosing accommodation,

Thanks!

RVC probably has the biggest variety of societies for vetmed (covering pretty much every vet topic you can think of on the SU website plus you can attend any society across the whole of the University of London!) and the nightlife is fab in London. It also has the largest small vet hospital in Europe, a practice in London (exotics included) and the equine hospital which are all brilliant. Nottingham has more clinical experience early on and everyone I know there loves it. I don’t think you can go wrong with either option! Might be worth comparing what optional tracks they offer?

as someone who’s been to rvc, im favoring Nottingham!! i did my undergrad in bioveterinary science!

i think i liked the idea of rvc because it was in london but in reality its soo expensive for rent and wasnt what i thought it was! notts also has way more hands on experience and i like that the class size is smaller, it feels more personal and that i’ll get a better experience there! xx

Hi there - let's see if I can get you started on this.

Broadly speaking, if you want to come to Nottingham and use our accommodation (at least to begin with) then you have a couple of options to weigh up.

You could apply for accommodation in the Sutton Bonnington Student Village. That gives you the advantage of proximity to the School and the teaching and practical work you will be doing as a Vet student. Details follow:

Bonington Student Village

.. or, there's a wider range of options if you base yourself with the main student body on University Park. That puts you 11 miles from SB, but the campuses are connected by a continuous free bus service (take about 25-30 minutes), so you can always get yourself to your course commitments and enjoy life at the main campus too. Depends what sort of experience you're going to be happier with. Here are the options (catered and self-catered) on the main campus:

Halls of Residence

I hope one option or the other comes to suit you well. It's certainly the case that plenty of our Vet students go on to share houses near to the Vet school, once they know one another better and friendships form.

Happy choosing!

It really is quite expensive in London, which can ruin your day-to-day uni experience. (Travel, rent, I know someone who walks 55 mins to campus everyday to avoid transport costs). Since it’s a professional degree, your going to get that same qualification regardless so you might as well enjoy yourself and not be so exhausted with London life, so I would say Nottingham xx

Best of luck!

The Sutton Bonnington campus will be dead, given all the course closures. But as a Vet student you will only need fellow students generally.

Hello everyone , I’m currently holding an offer from Uclan and Liverpool and I’m confused on which one to choose , any suggestions ? I’m a person who likes a balance between theory and hands on learning or something where my theory is reenforced by hands on experience. I’ve heard great things about both , but wanted to get more perspectives

Liverpool has a much stronger Vet school, although the city is famous for being the crime capital of Britain, alongside London. Though this doesn't really affect students much.

No idea, as it is a new Vet school. The uni is considered weak, but it does benefit from having arguably the three most prestigious courses outside of Oxbridge in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine (in no particular order).
