What to Actually Expect at the UofG Offer Holder Day

Hi everyone! With offer holder days coming up this 31st March, I wanted to give you a proper heads-up on what to actually expect.

What is it?
The Offer Holder Day is basically your first proper look at the university before you commit. It's your chance to see the campus, meet academics and get a feel for whether Glasgow is actually your kind of place. Think of it less as a formal event and more as a really useful try before you buy.

What actually happens on the day?

Campus Tours: You'll get a proper walk around the main campus. The Main Building and the cloisters are genuinely stunning in person, no filter needed. There is also tours for the library as well.

Subject Talks: You'll get a taster session or talk from academics in your specific department. This is genuinely useful as it gives you a real feel for the teaching style and what the first year actually looks like.

Student Q&A: Current students (like me!) are usually around to answer the questions you're too nervous to ask the academics. You can see us student ambassadors in blue hoodies or t-shirts. This is honestly the most valuable part of the day you can ask us all your burning questions.

Accommodation & Support Stalls: There are usually stalls from Accommodation, the Careers Service and other uni services. If you have any practical questions about living on campus or financial support, this is the perfect time to ask face-to-face.

My Top Tips for the Day:

Write your questions down beforehand. You will forget them the second you walk through the gate. The ones worth asking are about workload, assessment style, and what the first year actually feels like day-to-day.

Walk around on your own for a bit. After the official tour, take your time to just wander around. Grab a coffee on Byres Road and ask yourself honestly: Can I picture myself here for 4 years?

Talk to the students, not just the staff. We'll give you the honest version!

Why it matters:
For a lot of people, the Offer Holder Day is the moment they go from maybe Glasgow to definitely Glasgow. The campus has a way of doing that, especially on a good day when the sun hits the Main Building just right. If you want to read about why so many students end up falling for the place, check out 5 reasons to study at the University of Glasgow: https://link.unibuddy.co/unibuddy/SvVRtehEbuSJkxy87.

If you're coming to an Offer Holder Day soon, drop a comment below, would love to know what subject you're looking at! 👇✨

Daughter and I are coming over from NI to the open day. Offer for Politics and QM. If we have time, we'd like to look at a couple of accommodation options, is there transport available from the campus to accommodation or is it a walk?

Hi

My daughter is waiting on decision for vetinary medicine. However the timeline is saying 31st March for decisions. That is also the date for offer holders visiting day. Can we safely assume that she will be rejected at this late stage ? If she did get an offer on 31st March she would miss offer holder day. 😩

Hi,

Most of the uni accommodations are 15-20 mins of walk away in different directions, with one of them right in the heart of uni as well. It is pretty much walkable from the campus. You can also have a chat with the accommodation services on the day about the best way to reach the ones you are interested in, and they might be able to tell you a better alternative as well.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I completely understand the anxiety; the wait for Veterinary Medicine is notoriously long and stressful. However, please tell your daughter not to assume a rejection just because of the date.

Vet Med is one of the most competitive courses at Glasgow, and they review every single applicant before releasing the final wave of decisions to ensure it's as fair as possible. It is very common for offers to go out right up until the deadline.
Regarding the Offer Holder Day on the 31st March:

If she receives an offer on or just before that date, the University is usually very accommodating. They often hold supplementary tours or smaller departmental sessions for those who received late offers so they don't miss out on seeing the facilities.

I’d recommend still signing up for the day and joining it if it is possible to come over as by then you will receive the result email.

I wish her the best of luck for the decision!

The university is not ‘very accommodating’ if they do not put out offers until the day of the offer holders day. It is all very well saying ‘book anyway’ but people have to book transport and often accommodation. That can be a lot of money to waste if they are rejected on the day. And can you even book if you haven’t received an offer?

Hi,

You’re completely right, it’s a massive ask to expect anyone to book travel and hotels without a confirmed offer. I would only recommend if it is possible and if you guys live close by. Just to clarify, as I mentioned if it is possible, my apologies for not being very clear. I confused the offer holders day with the open day as the student needs to have the offer out already to book it. I will pass your feedback to the team about the day being right at the decision deadline.

However, I would still emphasis that if your daughter receives the offer very close to the deadline then you can contact the uofg campus tour team and have a look around the uni. Or you can contact the school itself to have the better look at the facilities, if you miss the offer holders day.

The wait is the worst part, but wishing her all the best for decision.

Hi Nainika,

I asked the original question ( I wasn't the one how replied saying that the uni weren't very accommodating). I will pass your encouraging comments to my daughter.

Thank you

Hiya! Yes, this is definitely possible

If you go on to the offer holder's day booking page, when selecting your degree choice as 'veterinary medicine' the application will adjust to show you the options for those studying this degree.

You can find the booking page here: https://www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/offerholders/ohd/

Scroll down to the form where you can see the question Which degree(s) do you hold an offer for?

Selecting vet med shows you the following info:
Vet School Tours
As part of the Undergraduate Offer Holders' Open Day taking place on Tuesday 31 March 2026, we are offering Vet Tours at our Garscube Campus.

From what I can see, there are two tour sessions with coach transport to Garscube Campus (select view session information for more specific details).

Hope this helps

Best,
Nethmi

Is the offer holder day much different from the open day? We came to the open day, attended a lecture about the course, visited the stands, and had a wander around. My son has an offer to study Computer Science, however his Computing assignment is due in this week so missing a double period to come on Tuesday isn’t ideal! Will there be any other days next month or does the Uni only offer one day?

Hi there,

The main difference between the offer holders day and open day is that on top of all the things which you experience on open day the offer holders day also do taster lectures and detailed subject talks. Otherwise, it is not much different. However, it is more personal decision to come for either or for both. We will only have one offer holders day this year. But we do have some open days coming up Thursday 18 June, 9am - 3pm Gilmorehill Campus, Wednesday 2 September, 9am - 3pm Gilmorehill Campus, Saturday 3 October, 11am - 3pm Dumfries Campus and Saturday 24 October, 9am - 3pm. You can always contact the school to discuss about any questions you have.

The computer science department have some online offer holders sessions on the dates : Thursday 9 April, 4-5pm, Monday 27 April, 4-5pm and Monday 11 May, 4-5pm. Personally I would highly recommend to attend on of these if you can't attend the in-person session. For more information about how to access, you can click on this link: https://www.gla.ac.uk/explore/visit/undergraduate/onlineinfosessions/ugofferholder/.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi,

Just to clarify, are to trying to book a slot for the offer holders day itself or it it something you are trying to book after booking a slot for the day? Just so I will know where to take this from.

Thanks!

Hi, I have booked a slot for the offer holders day itself but I was hoping to get a space for the Medicine and Nursing tours that happen throughout the day but from what it looks like they seem to all be full.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know! I am not too sure about it. But if it is saying full then, I would also recommend that if you will be in the campus anyways for the rest of the day then it is worth popping in for the tours and let them know about it. It is worth telling them on the day that all the tours were full, so you were not able to book them. Sometimes, people can't make it as well. So, you might be able to get a wee squeeze in the tour. But that would be highly dependant on the tour guide.

Sorry, I wasn't able to be of much help. As my department do separate tours as well and we like to take them on the spot too.
