Applying to Oxford Law , do i have a chance of getting in?

hi , im a y12 student looking to apply to oxford law, is this okay so far?

i'm eligible for contextual offers as young carer and low economic background from a sixth form that doesnt do that well on national average

i got grades 999996665
ENGLISH LITERATURE Grade 9
ENGLISH LANGUAGE Grade 9
SOCIOLOGY Grade 9
RELIGIOUS STUDIES Grade 9
HISTORY Grade 9

but my science and math were a little lower

im predicted 4 A*s in english literature , english language, classics and psychology.

started a debate society at my sixth form and started lnat prep which im already getting 24/25s on , 7 months early so i think ill get a good lnat hopefully.

im attending the oxford law taster day on monday and next month i have a law residential at mansfield college , so familiarising myself with the university

trying to max out supercurriculars too!!

You're definitely very capable of getting an offer to oxford law - your gcses are rlly good and your A Levels are fantastic. I'm also hoping to apply to oxford law too and I'm not as good as you, you're going to be a competitive applicant for sure. I'm also going to the oxford law taster day on monday so I'll see you there!

I'm no law expert but I do think it's worth applying. Do make sure your extenutating circumstances are put in the teacher reference, but it's also important to be aware that Oxford does not make contextual offers (unless you're going via the foundation course, I think! For which you have to have much lower predicted grades). So any offer you receive would be the standard offer for law, irrespective of personal disadvantage/circumstances :fyi:

The LNAT is the most important factor pre-interview. Also, many students offer a mix of Arts and Science A-Levels.

Hi, i'm in year 11 right now and i'm not looking to become a law student but I am looking at oxford for math. Are gcses really really important for oxford application? Because i keep seeing people say that it is or isn't and as someone who's actually filling out the application I figured you'd know. I'm predicted really good GCSES and I just wondered how far it will actually boost my application or if they don't care that much.

Oxford and LSE expect mostly 9s, 8s and 7s with the odd 6 or 5. 🙂 However, the LNAT score is very important too for selection.

Law-Admissions-Report-2025.pdf

2.1.4 Pre-Interview Admission tests MCT results and essays are available to tutors on ADSS from 24th October.

LNAT MCT is marked externally;

LNAT essays are marked internally using No More Marking and are available as PDFs for each candidate on ADSS.

Average LNAT MCT of all 2,115 candidates was 24.94.

Average LNAT MCT score of those shortlisted was 29.37.

Average LNAT MCT score of those receiving an offer was 30.48.

Average LNAT essay mark of all candidates was 62.38.

Average LNAT essay mark of those shortlisted was 64.59.

Average LNAT essay mark of those receiving an offer was 65.21.

hi we are actually in a rly similar position !! I'm looking to apply for oxford law and my gcses are 9999999875 (9s in eng lit/maths/chem/bio/phys/compsci/history and the 5 is in art so I'm hoping that doesnt impact me too much).

I think you have a rly strong application so def go for it!!

if you don't mind me asking, what supercurriculars do you do/have you done? I have some strong ones and I've pretty much finished with my supercurriculars now so I'm gonna start focusing solely on my grades and lnat. I just had a question; none of my supercurriculars are oxbridge-centred (like no oxford residentials/taster days/lectures/mentoring etc), do you think this will hold me back? I haven't experienced the university since I don't rlly fit into their outreach schemes and the only things related to the uni I can access are online. as another y12 student, do you think if my supercurriculars are really strong - just not involving oxford - I am still a strong applicant? this is probably a silly question😣

The LNAT is so so important for selection to top universities. It was my biggest downfall when I applied a year ago - I boosted my mark and personal statement with a really good tutor, and a year later after a gap year I got my first choice. Focus on LNAT (as well as grades and extracurriculars) and you're in a good position. feel free to PM me
