Why Warwick?

So I went to an offer holder day yesterday and it's definitely boosted my opinion of the university, but I'm still not quite sure whether it's where I want to go. As such I want to hear from anyone who either already studies there or is seriously considering Warwick to be their firm / insurance choice about why Warwick?

What's good about it, what made you choose it over other places? Etc.

Hello, my yp started last September in a STEM subject and Warwick was their first choice above Durham as their second choice. My young person wasn't a fan of a city campus and loves it at Warwick. They are in a flat of 12 who share a kitchen and 7 of them are signed up for a house next year. Good about Warwick: well respected by employers, business/career minded degree (despite being a STEM subject), safe campus, great lecturers/facilities and course structure. Loads of different societies to suit every interest. It was definitely the right choice for them. Good luck with whatever you decide.

A lot of people choose Warwick because it feels like a very solid option overall. The academic environment is strong and the courses are generally well respected, so people feel like it keeps a lot of options open later.

The campus atmosphere is also quite noticeable. Since it’s a campus university, there are lots of societies, events and student activities happening around campus. The university also sends regular emails about student opportunities.

Location wise it’s also quite convenient. Coventry is in the middle of the country and Birmingham and London are both fairly easy to reach.

Hi!
I would say the main reason I chose Warwick was for its strong reputation, employability, and my course's structure (I'm a Systems Engineering student). I also like how Warwick's culture can be very career-oriented, as someone who came into uni knowing nothing about internships or grad schemes. There is so much support here (careers services, societies, networking events, employer talks), and that's what encouraged me to do a placement year.
Being a campus uni also means it feels very connected. You see people you know all the time, it’s easy to make friends, and there’s a strong sense of community. Everything is in one place, which is super convenient. I really enjoyed my first year, and in second and third year students typically move off campus to smaller uni towns (like Leamington Spa), which I've loved even more.
Cost of living is also relatively cheap compared to big cities. People are generally very friendly, and the facilities are really good (library, sports centre, study spaces). Societies are also very well run and highly regarded, so there’s something for everyone.

Hi!

I’m currently a final-year student at Warwick so happy to share a bit from my experiences.

One of the main things that stood out to me was Warwick’s reputation and career prospects. As others have said, It’s very well regarded by employers, and there’s a strong focus on employability throughout your degree. There are loads of careers fairs, networking events, and opportunities to connect with companies, which makes a big difference when you start thinking about internships or grad roles. A lot of societies also run career-focused events, so you’re constantly exposed to different opportunities.

Student life is also a big plus - there are so many societies and events to get involved in, whether that’s academic, cultural, sports, or just for fun. Because it’s a campus uni, everything is quite centralised, which makes it easier to meet people and actually go to things - which I found was especially important in first year whilst adjusting to uni life.

The campus itself is another reason I really liked the uni. It feels very safe but still lively, with lots of activities and events going on throughout the year such as society events, book/poster sales, vintage clothing popups, an art gallery, sports hub, food spots etc. At the same time, it’s not overwhelming like a big city, so I think it’s a nice balance. You’ve also got places like Leamington and Coventry nearby if you want a change of scene, whether that’s for nights out, food, or just exploring. Having attended an offer holder day you might have already gotten a feel for the campus, so I’d suggest even just thinking about whether it’s somewhere you can see yourself living for 3-4 years.

In terms of academics, I’ve also found the teaching staff to be really strong in the departments I’ve taken modules from (Economics, Psychology, Philosophy, WBS, Computer Science and IATL), with many lecturers being leading experts in their field. There’s also a lot of support available if you reach out for it, whether that’s through office hours, academic support, writing workshops etc. As long as you’re proactive, there are definitely people and systems in place to help you do well.

Hope that helps and good luck in your decision - let me know if you have any other questions!

Best wishes,
Jasmine (Student Ambassador)
