Warwick/Bath/City..what to firm/insure

Hi everyone,

I’ve got offers for Business Management with Marketing from:

Warwick A*AA
Bath AAA / A*AB
City, Bayes– ABB
Idk what to firm/insure. I’m not sure I’ll meet the Warwick grades, or even Bath’s, but I could maybe apply to City through Clearing if needed. I’d like to live in London anyway, but I know City’s reputation isn’t as strong as Warwick or Bath. I'm just worried about being overly ambitious or underestimating myself. Ideally, I'd wanna firm Warwick as I liked it on the offer holder day but the grades are quite high (predicted AAA but I'm struggling at the moment and this might be a bit outdated).

I’d appreciate some advice.

Thanks so much

If you liked Warwick at the offer holder day, it’s quite normal to firm it. A lot of people choose Warwick as their first choice because it has a strong overall reputation.

Warwick Business School is also well known and the course is generally seen as quite solid, so people feel it keeps good options open later.

If you already like the atmosphere there, choosing Warwick usually feels like a safe decision.

Warwick's grades might be quite high but I think it's worth risking, considering Warwick Business School's strong reputation in the industry. The advantages it could give you education and career wise I think outweigh the risk of firming it and not meeting your conditions.
If you're predicted AAA, then you're well above City's requirements, and that should give you confidence/security in applying there through clearing.
Unfortunately, either way the choice isn't straightforward and there will always be a "what-if", and choosing the more ambitious option may seem more stressful, but you can use that to your advantage to push yourself when studying for your exams

Good luck with your choice, I'm happy to answer any questions if you have any!

Hi there,

I agree that if you really liked Warwick and it has a great reputation, it would make sense to firm it, even if it is a risk. After all, your insurance choice and Clearing are there so that you can take that risk with your firm choice.

With regards to your insurance, I think you should evaluate between Bath and City (and any others you may be considering). If you are happy staying in London for City, but prefer the reputation and statistics of Bath, it might be worthwhile to try and speak to students studying Business Management with Marketing or even just studying at those universities, here on The Student Room or on Unibuddy to try and gauge their experiences, thoughts and feelings, see what societies are on offer or what support is available, etc. You could also try and find YouTube videos to actually see campuses and facilities, to see if you might have a preference without considering location or reputation.

At the end of the day, choosing a university is a very difficult and important decision, so I wish you the best of luck, and hope that this helps!
