What does a typical week look like as a student at De Montfort University?

Hey everyone! Here’s what a typical week looks like as a Psychology student at De Montfort University

I’m currently in my third block of this academic year which is for Applied Psychology. Each block focuses on one main module and is structured so that the first few weeks are mainly learning content, followed by revision and then the assessment.

For example, I’m currently in week 5 coming towards the end of the teaching. In week 6 we’ll begin revision and then our exam or assessment usually takes place in week 7.

For this block, I’m on campus three days a week:
Tuesday: Lectures (9am–3pm) with a two-hour lunch break
Wednesday: Two workshops/seminars with a two-hour break in between
Thursday: One practical session

This timetable actually works quite well because it gives me a longer weekend, which helps with catching up on revision, assignments, or just relaxing after a busy week.

During our longer breaks between sessions, my friends and I usually try to make the most of the time. Sometimes we’ll head to the Kimberlin Library to go over lecture handouts, revise anything we weren’t too sure about or discuss the content while it’s still fresh after lectures.

Other times, we’ll head out into the city centre and we’ve honestly started to become our own version of food critics. Leicester has so many different food spots, so we’ve been slowly expanding our food palettes by trying new takeaways, brunch spots and cafés whenever we get the chance. It’s definitely one of my favourite parts of coming into uni food is absolutely the way to my heart!

On a good day, we’ll also go up to the 4th floor balcony of the Vijay Patel Building, which overlooks the campus and is one of the nicest spots to sit, relax and chat with friends between classes.

We’ve also started spending a bit more time at the De Montfort Students' Union which has become another place we like to check out between sessions. There always seems to be something happening there from record and book sales to vintage clothing stalls, perfume and jewellery sales as well as different activities, games and sometimes even chances to win freebies. It’s a nice place to stop by during the week and see what’s going on around campus.
