university of york or leeds for psychology?

okay so, i have reapplied to university after attending university of manchester for about a year (now i have withdrawn from it), studying cognitive neuroscience and psychology -- last year i applied to york again and almost firmed it but ended up picking manchester at the end but as we can tell i hated it, now again i have applied to uni of york and got my unconditional offer - but so many people keep telling me that i will get bored at the uni of york and its nightlife is so bad so i shouldnt go there. everyone i know who went to uni of leeds loves it so much and i dont know what to do, apart from the social aspects (from what ive heard) i would go to york as it was my dream since last year. i cannot make this mistake of picking the wrong university again please help me :frown:

Hi,

I’d recommend visiting both universities in person if you can, as seeing the campuses and cities can really help make a decision. It also comes down to whether you prefer the teaching styles, modules studied, any opportunities, cost of living, transport and accommodation, and student life.

Think about what matters most to you academically and personally, not just what others say, and that should help guide your choice.

Hope this helps,

Hi @rbyae,

I'm so sorry to hear that you had a difficult time at the University of Manchester; it sounds like you've had a tough, unsettled year so far. Secondly, congratulations on your unconditional offer to study at York! You should be super proud of yourself for achieving that 🎉

I agree with @LJMUStudentReps; if you can, you should definitely visit the University of York campus and the city if you haven't already. This is one of the best ways to see if you like somewhere and whether you can visualise yourself living there for a few years. If you can visit us in person, I'd recommend using our Visit UoY App to take a self-guided tour of the city and of the campus. The tours are narrated by York students and are a great way to explore York without the worry of getting lost!

My experience at York

I studied Biology at York between 2018 and 2022, and I loved it here so much that I now work for the University! I can safely say that over those four years, I was never bored my weekly schedule was always pretty busy, from concerts to yoga.

I was fortunate to find really great friends in my flatmates and coursemates, and I often socialised with them in the different bars across campus, as well as for nights out in town and for more chilled evenings watching movies or enjoying a takeaway. York might not have the huge nightclubs you find in Manchester or Leeds, but I never felt like I was missing out on anything. For me, whether a night out is good or not depends hugely on the people you're with, not just the venue. But I really loved Stone Roses Bar, an indie bar/club which is notorious for some crazy drinks and playing indie classics!

We also have hundreds of student-run societies and sports clubs, so there's something for everyone. I'm not into sports, but I do like singing, so I joined a choir, and I loved doing the performances each semester. As you might already know, we're a collegiate university, so when you start at York, you are assigned to one of our ten undergraduate colleges. If you live on campus, this college will also be where you live for your first year. Colleges run different weekly events, from movie nights and crafting sessions to free food and club nights. You could also take part in College Sport, which is a bit more relaxed than playing at university competition level.

I hope this helps with your decision, if you've got any other questions about your course or life at York, please let us know and we'll do our best to help 😀
Hannah ❤️

Hi,

What is it about Manchester that you hated? If the nightlife of Bath is the only downgrade then it shouldn’t matter that much. But regardless you should visit the open days and walk around both cities.
