I don't know what graphic design uni to firm

I'm currently doing a BTEC in art and design and have applied for graphic design courses at uni. I got an unconditional offer from UWE so I'll be making that my insurance choice, but I'm not sure what to pick as my firm. My offer from University of Leeds is MMM but it is contextual and they're only giving that offer if I put them as my firm so I wouldn't be able to pick them as my insurance. The MMU offer is DMM but I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to achieve this because I still haven't received my grades for B1. Last year I got mostly merits and a couple distinctions but I'm not sure if I'm doing as well this year. I really like both Leeds and Manchester and I'm a bit torn because if I pick MMU and I don't get in then I feel like I wasted my chance of being at Leeds. But if I pick Leeds and end up getting the grades for MMU then I feel like I should have been more ambitious. I'm also not sure if the graphic design course at Leeds is worse than the one at MMU. Any advice on what would be the smart choice and how the unis compare?

Hey @User8888888!

First of all, congrats on all of your offers 😊

You've clearly put quite a bit of thought into what your main points of comparison are between both courses, which are: the grade requirements and the course content. Our Graphic Design course sits within the Manchester School of Art, meaning you'll be based in the heart of Manchester and collaborating alongside students from a number of different courses and disciplines. You can find out more about your specific course, module content, and the wider School of Art here: https://www.art.mmu.ac.uk/graphicdesign/.

However, the best way to find out more about each specific course is to attend a visit day. As you're holding offers, you should receive email invites from most universities to book onto a visit day. These will typically be more course-specific than an Open Day you may have previously came to, so we would always recommend you book on and attend! These are also great chances to visit the cities/campus of each university you have offers for. You'll likely be living there for the duration of your course, so ensuring you enjoy the city and can picture yourself living there is crucial too.

I hope this gives you a good starting point when making your decision!

Hi, thank you for the apply 🙂 I've been to open days for both MMU and Leeds but I'm a bit worried about waiting for the offer holder days in April as I would like to make my decision ideally by next week so I can book accommodation. I know first year accommodation is guaranteed but I wouldn't be able to afford anything more than the absolute cheapest accommodations at either university. I'm not sure what the chances of them being fully booked are if I make my decision later but I don't want to risk it haha.

Hi @User8888888 ,

Congratulations on your offer!

Things which helped me decide on a university was to write a physical pro's and cons list. This helped by comparing the course, module content, assigment methods, the city the university is in, placement and graduate opportunities etc. Being aware of your working style and what assignments you prefer is also important (e.g. more practical assignments vs exams and essay-based work) as it can vary from university to university.

Good luck with everything!
