Uni of Sheffiled Law reading

To those who have studied for an LLB law at the Uni of Sheffield, what are some books you have had to read for the course in the first year, which I could get a head start on over the summer. Which would you recommend too?
Hello!

I am a second year law student at the University of Sheffield. Firstly of all, it's great that you're being so proactive this early on!

For my academic year, we were not set any pre-reading over the summer in preparation for our first year. I think it's really important to try and relax a bit and recover from exam season. That being said, I was of the same mindset as you and was trying to get a head start over the summer!

Before beginning university, I read 'Letters to A Law Student: A guide to studying law at university' by Nicholas J. McBride. I found it really beneficial and it gave me a bit of an insight as to what studying Law would be like. I also went to my local library and read some of the introductory chapters of the textbooks relating to the modules taught in first year: contract law, criminal law etc. A full list of modules studied in first year can be found on this page.

Although it was not required, I found this really useful as I had never studied law before, so if you're looking to get a head start going to your local library is probably the best bet as law textbooks can be really expensive!

Another thing to note is that throughout the course at Sheffield, all the textbooks are provided online so you don't need to worry about buying any textbooks before you start.

I hope this has been of some help. Do you have any other question about the LLB Law course at Sheffield, or the university more generally?😁

Thank you so much! This is very useful because I have already read 'Letters to a law student'. At least I know I am doing the right things.
