Hi there,
I am a 3rd-year UofG student. Coming from my personal experience, as I am a business and management student, I can give you some general advice.
As for the style of learning in Glasgow Uni, it is a lot of independent study you have to do for most of the courses. However, we do have study groups, graduate teaching assistants GTAs (not sure if vet med might have a different position or term to call them) and societies for each subject group. For medicine students in general, there is lots of labs as well and I have heared from a few of my friends who do medicine related courses that these labs tends to be of 4-5 hours where they discuss a lot of topics. You also have good amount of time to study during these labs and ask the GTAs all the questions which sounds quite good to me.
For the study environment, as I am an international student too from India, it is actually quite friendly and community based. Everybody likes to study together and they tend to focus on their own grades instead of competition. There is no system for class ranking. You only get a specific degree level (first class honors, second class honors, etc.) on your transcript and nobody else asks for it. It also depends on the friend hours you will hang out as well.
As for the accommodation, Glasgow can be a bit challenging sometimes. However, if you would like to stay in student accommodation the uni doesn't guarantee a spot to students from other years. But if you apply early for it then they usually tend to offer you a place. Also, there are lots of private accommodation as well. I have lived in both uni (2 years) and private accommodation (1 year). Otherwise if you like to find rental with your friends then it takes about a month to two months to find a good place.
I would also like to add that the community at Glasgow Uni is always very supportive. We have Student representative council to help with all sorts of housing issues and other things. We also have student support officers as well as student advisors for each school which can help you with any academic issues which you might face on the way.
Hopefully that helps answer some of your questions. Let me know if you have any other questions.
