Questions about Level 3 International: Introduction to the Study of Fashion at UAL

Hi everyone,

I’ve just received an offer for the Level 3 International: Introduction to the Study of Fashion for the September 2026 intake. I'm having a hard time finding detailed information or student reviews for this specific course online.

If anyone is currently enrolled or has previously completed this program, I’d really appreciate some insight into a few things:

1. Course Structure: How is the year divided between the diagnostic phase and the specialist pathways (Design, Media, and Business)?

2. Progression: How well does this course prepare you for a BA application at CSM or LCF? Do you feel the portfolio support is specific enough for competitive pathways like Womenswear?

3. Workload: Coming from a high school background (Grade 12), what is the jump in technical expectations like for garment construction and 3D work?

4. Cohort: Since it’s an international-specific course, what is the typical class size and level of 1-on-1 tutor time?

If there’s anything you wish you knew before starting, please let me know. Thanks.

hey, Im currently lcf womenswear first year and I completed IISF foundation the year before and honestly I think it is a great course for Design pathway for sure. You get I think a month of diagnostic where you explore all pathways and then you pick which is best and you apply for it with the work you completed in that first month. They support you a lot with all the things you need to apply for BA and the projects you do on the course are designed specifically toward what LCF portfolio structures would get accepted. I think they prepare super well, at least for design pathway, but obviously at the end of the day it does come down to how much effort you're willing to put in to make your portfolio stand out especially if you're aiming for competitive courses. You learn some 3d work like draping on the stand and sample development, they teach a sewing class but also again its up to you how much you make use of everything and how much you're willing to learn external things like drafting a pattern, they encourage it and will provide help if you ask.
