Think halls just easier for first years as that way u prob get to meet more people and maybe slightly cheaper? At least then if u dont get on with flatmates u have option of switching to another flat and there will be other first years around. Unless u r mature student etc then not halls probs.

Only thing that worries me about the halls is some as so far from the main campus.

Most people seem to recommend Fallowfield, which is a bit of a way out but not ridiculously so. But ikwym. But I think its got its own busy vibe going too for nightlife etc and there must be regular buses; but ur choice of course. It does seem a bit weird like a campus but not where the Uni teaching buildings are!

Manchester Uni is a bit spread out over the city but has main teaching campus and lecture buildings in clusters. Fallowfield is in a seperate suburb but I think a few halls (so am guessing it feels like a mini campus) in the same area and it is meant to be quite a happening area of Manchester with its own nightlife, bars, cafes, restaurants etc nearby so you don't always have to go into city centre for a social time but you would need to travel about 3 miles for lectures into city centre maybe. Thats just what I got from own reading and visiting the Uni in the centre anyways. Hope that helps a bit and anyone else feel free to correct me if i've got that wrong.
