Clinical or Non-Clinical Vet Med Work Experience?

I'm in Year 12 and will be applying to Vet Med in October and work experience is obviously essential for this, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if a placement at a Canine Hydrotherapist would be classed as clinical or non-clinical? It isnt what springs to mind when I think non clinical (farms, stables etc.) but also isnt a regular vet practice.

Any advice about this would be appreciated as I need 70 hours of each category to apply to RVC and it will help to know where I stand as is.

If anyone has any tips or advice for finding non clinical work experience too it would great!

Some Local/city farms will let u apply for work experience opportunities over the summer holidays, have a look on Google. Search local animal charities websites for volunteer opportunities/ email them and offer to volunteer. I can’t answer your question regarding the hydrotherapy but it definitely boosts your application and makes it stand out as not many applicants have that opportunity, mention it in your personal statement too. Any customer services experience is also worthwhile for your application. For vet clinic experience, draft a brief paragraph and email all of the vets in your city. My sister sent out 70 emails and got 2 offers for work experience. Start securing your work experience placements early.

Non clinical clinical experience has to be at a vet practice/hospital. I know it can be hard to get WE with vets but it is essential IMO even if not a requirement at some schools.

Tips for booking:
Show that you are keen and that you will actually get involved the reason most practices have stopped accepting non vet students is because most people don't contribute or go on their phones during consults etc. Show them that isn't you.
Tell them the other experience you have and what it is that you want to gain from being at a vet clinic.
See them in person and see if the practice manager is available to talk to about work experience. It is a lot harder for them to say no in person compared to on email.

When you do get some make the most of it. Vets will go above and beyond if you actively engage. I left mine with a part time job at a kennels that I would never have gotten so easily if it weren't for the head vet reccomending me. You'll also probably find a recenly graduated vet who are really useful for getting reccomendations on where else to get experience etc. Start off slowly offering to clean the consult table etc they will build up the responsibility as you go.

Thankyou - its really good to get advice from a vet student! I was hoping hydrotherapist would be non clinical to be fair as I have 2 weeks at small vet practices secured and less non clinical.
