Maintenance loan and a higher amount of maintenance loan?

Hello! I'm struggling to do the application now, and I am a bit puzzled - What's the difference between a maintenance loan and a higher amount of maintenance loan?

I am a mature student, living alone and away from family, planning on studying full-time in September, and I can't figure out what the difference is between these two.

Each is around 5000 pounds, an amount that's not enough if I want to study full-time and work part-time. Or maybe it means I'll get both? Thank you!
SFE will be along to give an official answer, but perhaps this is the inside and outside of London allowances?

Do any of the figure match those on this page?

Hi there,

A student can apply for a basic amount of Maintenance Loan which all students are eligible for however if they want to apply for a higher rate of Maintenance Loan we may factor other information when assessing or this. What university will you attend and how old are you? Do you live alone or have a partner/spouse? Do you have any children?

Thanks, Drew

Hello!

I'll attend SOAS, I'm 45, no children, and I live alone (I have the settled status, my family doesn't live here).

Thank you!

Hi there, as you are over 25 and are single, then we would look to assess your application (if applied to be fully means tested) on your own personal circumstances. Stephen
