Should I apply for medicine with 5 GCSEs including Maths?

I am a Year 12 student I have 5 6s in my GCSE’s including maths. But I plan to resit English language gcse hopefully to get a 6. I am currently studying biology, chemistry and psychology and aim to get A,A and A in alevels. Do you think it’s right for me to apply for Medicine at unis like Kent and Medway, edge hill university, Leeds
Or should I do a foundation year or is medicine not a good option
Feel free to tell me your thoughts on this

Hiya,

I think you would we best contacting unis directly. I am aware that some unis don't accept resits unless is exceptional circumstances and many others rank your GCSE grades and/or your UCAT so I'm not quite sure how this would work unless you have these exceptional circumstances.

Apart from only having 5 GCSEs (which again you would need to ask them about), there are plenty of good unis that don't rank GCSEs and only use your predicted grades and UCAT such as St Andrews and Exeter (maybe Lancaster too?).

Hope this helps

Hi there!

It's great to hear that you are looking to study Medicine at Edge Hill University.

For entry onto our MBChB Medicine course, we do require at least five GCSEs at Grade B or Grade 6 or above (or equivalent) at the time of application, including Biology, Chemistry, English Language and Mathematics. GCSE Double Science Awards, at Grades 6-6 or B-B or above, will also be accepted in lieu of separate GCSEs in Biology and Chemistry.

We do accept GCSE re-sits for our course, you will just need to have achieved the required grades before you submit your application.

We also require grades AAA at A level in Biology, Chemistry and one other subject, so your A Level subjects and your predicted grades would definitely make you eligible to apply.

If you would like to find out more about our Medicine course and the full entry criteria, you may wish to take a look at our e-prospectus.

You may also wish to visit us at one of our summer Open Days.

I hope this helps and we look forward to hopefully seeing you at Edge Hill soon 😊
