Defering my UK dentistry offer

hi, I am an international student planning to study dentistry in the UK. I have got an offer already but my parents are urging me to defer a year to be eligible for home fees due to the cost, which I understand it is expensive. However, when i moved to the UK, i already went down a year during gcses so its like started university 2 years later. Although I feel like i can save lots of money and do lots during that gap year, I cannot help but know I will feel quite left behind comparing with my peers, with some of my friends back in my home country even starting year 3 by the time I start university. Is there anything I can do to make myself feel better :frown:

Also, I have plans on what I would like to do during that year like learning a new language, would like recommendations of useful dental stuff for kcl or qmul dentistry I can pre learn

I was in a similar situation to you, in that I was a couple of years older than most people at my uni. No one has ever noticed or cared, and the truth is you forget about being "behind" pretty quickly, partly because you're not really behind, you're just on a different route, and partly because you'll meet new people whom you're sharing your life stage with

Have you emailed the place you have an offer for to see if you could defer - and if this would result in you being classed as a home student for 2027 entry?
