Durham uni college allocation

Hi!
i submitted my college preferences a little while ago now, and we have until some point in may until the deadline.
i was wondering if anyone knows usually when we get our college allocations back? (i know they can change on results day, i just mean these preliminary allocations)
thanks !! 😊

incase anyone was wondering, my top three are st johns, st chats, and hatfield, mainly because they're catered and on the bailey, and as a theology student my lectures are right next to the cathedral so it won't be far at all to walk : )

Hiya!!

So for Durham University, college allocations usually come out in late spring / early summer - most commonly around May to early June once the preference deadline has passed. I cannot give a specific date as these change year to year and to be honest are announced once the allocation process has been finalised which may take some time depending on what colleges are oversubscribed.

A few key things to know:

These are provisional allocations, so they can change after results day depending on numbers

Not everyone hears back at exactly the same time - they can come out in batches

You may not always get your first/ top 5 colleges

Your choices sound really well thought out. St John's College, Durham, St Chad's College, and Hatfield College are all great Bailey, catered options and perfect for Theology in terms of location near the cathedral.

So yes, you should hopefully hear sometime in the next couple of months, just keep an eye on your emails! Hope this has helped.

Hi, my daughter submitted her preferences and noticed that some Hill colleges use off-site accommodation, specifically Ernest Place. This was never mentioned when we did the accomm tours on offer holder day and is relatively hidden in 'small print' and less than transparent. Do you know how these rooms are allocated if you have been given John Snow, South and Stephenson?

Hi @Sn1per007, I believe I answered some of your questions in this thread: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7673668

I just wanted to apologies if you felt these off site accommodations was hidden or withheld information from you and your daughter. These off-site accommodations initially sound troubling - but most of the time once students are allocated a college they can express an interest in the sites they would prefer to live at. However, obviously not everyone always get there top preference but most of the times students are happy and content with where they live. If this is a serious concern for your daughter, my other advice would be to perhaps re-consider her allocations, and submit preferences with all-one site colleges at the top. I would just like to reassure and say that college allocation feels like such a stressful and 'uni-experience determining event', but most people don't tend to get their top choice, yet end up happy wherever they land. I got my 8th-10th choice Van Mildert, which I was initially displeased with, but since arriving in Durham I have fallen in love with it!

I hope this has helped. Please reach out to me if you need any more insight!
